In the hometown of Filipino Cardinal Luis Antonio, people share their hopes that he will replace Pope Francis ahead of this week's conclave in Rome. "He's a very kind person," says 72-year-old egg pie vendor Corazon Reno.
"He doesn't discriminate against anyone, he just helps them," adds candle vendor Anna Fernandez.
Tagle grew up in Imus, Cavite, a densely populated city south of Manila, and has not been afraid to criticize the Church for its shortcomings, including over the sexual abuse of minors. He was made a cardinal by Benedict XVI in 2012 and had already been considered a candidate for pope in the 2013 conclave in which Francis was elected.
