Cotton picking season kicks off in southern Queensland

Late-season rain sweeping in from the west proved a mixed blessing for southern Queensland cotton growers.

00:00It's been a good cotton growing season all year. We've had plenty of warmth, good days and everything,

00:07right up to picking. And then we've had 11 inches of rain, but anyway we've got the pickers going now so it's all good.

00:13The days are short with the dews and the moisture coming in early at night. The country's holding the pickers up.

00:18It's not ideal after 11 inches of rain obviously, but the job's getting done.

00:23I would say it has been unpredictable. Strong start and not as good finish.

00:29The picking's going good. Tagging a little bit because of the tight bowls, but other than that the weather's good so picking's good.
