00:00A highly experienced HR executive with all the important SHRM certifications did nothing wrong and still got fired.
00:07It was completely unexpected and totally devastating.
00:11After terminating hundreds of employees over the years, if anyone should have seen their own termination coming, it was this HR executive.
00:18Completely blindsided, humiliated, and embarrassed, the panic set in.
00:22How am I going to provide for my family?
00:24What am I going to tell my friends?
00:25I asked them to tell me what it did at work.
00:27The answers were exactly what you'd expect a typical HR executive to say.
00:31Things like overseeing payroll, answering employee personnel questions, and that kind of stuff.
00:36I immediately knew what happened.
00:37He did a good job, but a good job wasn't good enough.
00:40He was viewed as an expense to the company in that role instead of an asset.
00:45The company asked, what are the job functions of this person?
00:47And can we get these accomplished for less money without sacrificing quality?
00:52It wasn't as hard to do as a former HR executive thought it might be.
00:55His sense of security was false because of it, and it caught up with him.
