00:00Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has called for calm and restraint amid escalating tensions
00:07between national oil firm Petronas and Sarawak state-owned Petros over their licensing dispute.
00:13Citing the need to protect mutual interest, Anwar urged all parties to hold off any action
00:18or public statement until further discussions are held following a conversation with Sarawak
00:23Premier Abang Johari Openg yesterday. In a post on X, he said he remains confident that this
00:29issue can be resolved through prudent and meaningful discourse. This comes after Petronas confirmed
00:35that its subsidiary, Petronas Charigali Sandiran Berhad, received a notice on April 30 from the
00:40Sarawak Utility and Telecommunications Ministry concerning gas processing and distribution.
00:46In the letter, Charigali was accused of operating its Miri crude oil terminal without a state license.
00:52The state has given the company 21 days to rectify the matter, failing which it would face financial
00:57penalties under Section 21A of the state's Distribution of Gas Ordinance 2016. Petronas maintains that its
01:05operations are authorized under federal law and has expressed willingness to engage with both federal
01:10and state governments to ensure regulatory clarity. Separately, Abang Johari was quoted by the Sarawak
01:16Public Communications Unit as saying he had given Anwar his assurance of pursuing a win-win solution
01:22that ensures fair revenue distribution.
