01:30Oh, you want my water?
01:58You need it?
02:01You want some water?
02:02On the way down to the Omo Valley, we stopped by this little tribe called the Konso tribe.
02:08They live in southwestern Ethiopia, primarily in the Konso highlands near the Rift Valley.
02:15Their territory is known for its dry, hilly landscape, which they've adapted through remarkable agricultural practices.
02:23The Konso's are famous for their stone terracing.
02:27They create these stone fixtures and they live in them.
02:29They keep their food in them.
02:31They keep their cattle in them.
02:32And they're actually quite impressive.
02:34They use soil erosion and they use water retention to kind of build these fixtures.
02:41They also drink a lot of homemade beer that they make themselves.
02:45And they create these terraces.
02:48And it's like an ancient engineering practice.
02:52It's really, really, really cool.
02:53And we still use it today.
02:54The traditional Konso villages are called Pilates, and they're built on hilltops and surrounded by defensive stone walls.
03:03Inside the homes are made of wood, thatch, and mud.
03:07They have shared public spaces for ceremonies and meetings.
03:11The Konso practiced a traditional belief of Christianity or Orthodox Christianity, which is the main religion here in Ethiopia.
03:19So they have a church here on site.
03:21And they have this beautiful view on top of these mountains that they live in.
03:25They live with their cattle.
03:27Their cattle are everything, which is like most tribes here in southern Ethiopia.
03:31Your cattle is your livelihood.
03:34So they keep their goats and their cows and their sheep living with them in these stone fixtures.
03:40They also practice polygamy.
03:43So a man will have three or four wives, especially a wealthy man.
03:49Wealthy meaning lots of cattle.
03:51And families are patriarchal.
03:53They're patriarchal.
03:54The man is the leader, and the elders have significant authority in the community decisions.
04:00There is this tall tree that stands in the middle of the Konso village here in Ethiopia.
04:05And this tree marks how old this village is.
04:08Every 18 years, they will put like a little wrap around this tree and they'll keep going.
04:13So if you count 18 and you count each time you see like a little circle around this tree, that's how old this village is.
04:20Every 18 years, they will wrap some more wood around, signifying that this village is still around, which I think is really, really cool.
04:29So something I admire about these people is their life is really simple, but they look really happy, especially the kids.
04:36They're all smiling and super excited.
04:39And the fact that they can make their livelihood out of, you know, stones and rocks is amazing.
04:47So what are you doing?
04:48How are you doing?
04:49Hello.

05:46You dip it in the sauce and in the injura and you eat it raw
05:51Is it good? Yes
05:53Yeah, okay, let's try
06:02So how do you eat it?
06:14It's nice, I'm very sharp

06:40Yeah, I want to do it
06:42Let's see this
06:47Let's see
07:02It's good
07:06You do it like this
07:07Like this, but you have this one again, we are cutting into two, like this, so what
07:15you have is, you have the sauce, hot sauce.
07:19Yeah.
07:21Mmm.

07:44It's delicious.
07:46You're so tasty.
07:53It's nice.
07:55oh thank you

08:18good flavor
08:25we're supposed to eat all this
08:39Romy meat which makes it better in hot spice
08:57a lot of local burr and this one is a local cheese yeah
09:05fresh fresh local cheese yeah
09:09spinach he's going to teach you there is gursha gursha
09:14gursha and when the gursha comes you will accept oh okay okay
09:28we don't eat that much like the way that we fit in your mouth oh yeah
09:39so this means like you know we feel that you are not eating very well
09:44you don't feel like you know
09:58so
10:17one of my favorite parts about riding through ethiopia down to the southern coast of the omel valley is that
10:25you get to see the cultures there's so many different cultures and tribes in ethiopia it's
10:30insane and you'd miss it if you flew so i'm so happy that i rode through the beautiful omel valley
10:38through the middle all the way down to southern ethiopia so i got to see the beauty the beauty of
10:45ethiopia is just it's breathtaking after two days we finally made it to the omel valley the omel valley
10:53is basically where hundreds of tribes live and my goal was to come down here and meet these tribes
11:01this has been on my bucket list for years and this is the kind of travel i live for you know um
11:08it's not a tourist attraction it's not a zoo these are real tribes are real people that have
11:13been surviving for thousands of years this way they haven't modernized like us they don't want to
11:20and they live off of god and the earth i mean come on look where they live you guys
11:26ugh insane they don't live off of money like we do they live off of cattle and you know weather
11:33and so we engaged in some of that too a lot of the road a lot of the ride we would just
11:40get papayas cut them and enjoy them as roadside snacks this was truly one of the most amazing
11:46experiences i've ever had in my entire life and it just shows you how beautiful god made this world
11:53and how he takes care of us with the fruit he provides and with the the beautiful trees and plants
11:58that you know we don't live off of any more but these tribes very much do right
12:17so
12:28so
12:56Oh my god, they're walking on sticks.
13:03Are you going to hit him?
13:08Oh my gosh.
13:1714?
13:25This one is 12.
13:28He's 12, yeah, yeah, yeah.
13:31And their names?
13:34David.
13:35David.
13:36His name is Dave.
13:37David.
13:38Orgo.
13:39His name is, like, you know, Golden Boy.
13:42Oh.
13:43Ordo.
13:48Ordo.
13:49Ordo.
13:51Ordo.
13:55You see what he said?
13:57These tribal songs, they're called East Rife, you know?
14:03They are proud of the forest.
14:06Young people, they are proud of the forest.
14:09They call each rife, you know?
14:11They are proud of the forest, younger, you know?
14:39They call each other.
15:00Don't give aICEΠ΅ΠΉ attention.
15:08When I saw these tribal kids I knew we had finally made it to the Omo Valley.
15:30The Omo Valley is like I said full of hundreds of different tribes and it's so funny because
15:37these kids didn't know where the heck we were from, they didn't know if we were from
15:41Ethiopia, they didn't know if we were from some foreign land, they've never really
15:46seen that many foreigners so they're kind of very territorial like who are you
15:50guys, why are you guys coming into our land, what are you doing, they don't want
15:55they're they don't mind foreigners but it can be very very just inquisitive just
16:02wanting to know what you're doing here what you're coming for and what can you
16:07do for them of course they asked us for money but they danced and they were so
16:12sweet and I it just was it made my entire day being able to see that we were
16:19finally in the tribal lands of Ethiopia.
16:24Hi how are you?
16:27Hello!
16:29Hello!
16:30Hello!
16:31Hello!
16:32Hello!
16:33Hello!
16:34Hello!
16:35Hello!
16:36Hello!
16:51Brief intermission to let you guys know I am deep into a challenge of visiting every
16:57single country in the world.
16:59I have visited 135 countries in the last 7 years, and I'm currently traveling Africa
17:05in only Africa in 2025 to complete every single country here.
17:11There are 54 countries in Africa, I've been to 12, and I will spend the entirety of 2025
17:18here in the continent of Africa trying to finish every single country.
17:22We've accomplished a lot, but I have 42 more countries to go and I could use your help.
17:28If you could at all be a part of this journey and support my goal, it would mean the world
17:33to me.
17:34I have a GoFundMe, it's linked in the description box down below, you can just go to the description
17:39box and click the link and if you could donate it would be life changing for this goal.
17:44This goal is bigger than me and I need so much help and I know that together we can do this.
17:50I'm attempting to do this thing all by myself, you guys.
17:54So I just want to let you know I'm never going to give up and everybody who donates or cheers me on,
18:00you are keeping me going.
18:02I can't do this alone, I wouldn't want to do it alone and it's been so meaningful to have
18:07you guys a part of this goal.
18:08Again, a donation would be amazing, it would help me with another flight, another accommodation,
18:14another visa, everything that it takes to visit every single country in the world.
18:18So, if you can, please do, anything helps and I'm not going to keep you guys too long.
18:23Let's get back into the video.
18:32You guys, I just woke up in Jinka, everywhere you sleep here, you're going to get a mosquito
18:39net around your bed because, you know, the mosquitoes have been attacking me so the mosquito net is
18:46very nice, we're about to leave, I've just been doing some planning, you guys know I'm trying to
18:53visit every country in the world so literally 50% of my life is like planning, trying to figure it out.
19:00And I just had some matcha water, you guys know I drink matcha every morning, I don't have
19:06like a hot water pot in these hotels, so I've just been like putting matcha in a water bottle and
19:12shaking it like this, no, this is a very unprofessional way to drink matcha but I need my matcha every day.
19:19I've been eating so many different foods, I want to keep my stomach okay, I don't want my stomach to
19:25freak out from all the stuff I've been eating, so I'm trying to keep my routine, I just had a whole
19:31bottle of matcha, I don't know what I'm going to be eating today.
19:49Yeah.
20:01Today was really special for me because we got up early in Jinka and head towards Mercy Village,
20:12or the Mercy Village, which is actually a new village being that the Mercy Tribe has migrated because of
20:19war. Still, it's still a blessing to be able to see them. It took another two, three hours drive south,
20:27the really south Ethiopia, and when we arrived at their village, I literally was having a mini
20:35panic attack because this has been one of my dreams for years to visit. I call them the Lip Plate Tribe,
20:42their authentic name is the Mercy Tribe.
20:45I'm coming back.
20:54Hi.
20:56Hi.
20:57Hi, Charlie.
20:59Hi, Charlie.
21:03Hi.
21:07Hi.
21:15Mercy women are famous for wearing these large clay lip plates in their lower lip.
21:29This is a rite of passage symbolizing womanhood, strength, and beauty.
21:34The lip is pierced and gradually stretched, but the plate often starting in their teenage years.
21:39Both men and women practice sacrication as a form of beauty and tribal identity.
21:47For men, scars can also represent the number of enemies they've killed in battle.
21:52It can represent the number of wives.
21:55Also, it could just look cool.
21:58When I asked this lady to put in her lip plate for me, she was not having it.
22:02She was like, I'm not in the mood.
22:04And I was like, please, I want to see you put it in.
22:06Does it hurt?
22:07And she's like, fine, I'm putting it in once.
22:09But she was still very nice.
22:11And the girls, the young girls, were so happy to see us.
22:15Especially the really young kids.
22:18They were so, so, so happy to see foreigners.
22:20Like I said, they've been going through a lot.
22:22They're running from war right now.
22:24They're at war with the Ari tribe.
22:26So it was nice to be able to see them a little bit closer to the city.
22:28If I'm being very honest in my vlogs, which I always intend to be, the Mercy tribes aren't
22:50always the easiest people to get along with.
22:52They can be extremely violent.
22:54And even I was having some issues with them, with inappropriate touching.
22:59And the thing is, they're not afraid to hurt you.
23:01So let's just say something bad happened.
23:04It would be totally your fault.
23:05But I didn't experience anything too serious.
23:08And if you're thinking about visiting the Mercy tribe, know that they're mostly nice.
23:11But some of them can be quite aggressive.
23:14They love to kill.
23:15They love to stab.
23:17They get very drunk.
23:18So I wouldn't advise this for everyone.
23:21But I still felt very, very comfortable.
23:24And a lot of them were super nice, like I said.
23:27I just don't want to promote this and say that it's super safe because it's not always
23:31super safe to visit them.
23:33A lot of them, these Mercy tribe people, like I told you, they're running from war.
23:37So they're technically right now in a refugee camp closer to the city where they usually
23:41live out in the bush.
23:42Like way, way, way out in the bush.
23:45So they're still a little bit stressed out.
23:47But yet they were still willing to visit us.
23:49And super nice when we asked for pictures.
23:51They wanted to give pictures.
23:52They gave me lip plates.
23:54They're super nice.
23:55And they were showing us, you know, their designs and putting them in their ears.
24:00And so, yeah, it was a super pleasant experience.
24:02And I just can't believe I got to do this.
24:15And I just can't believe I got to do this.
28:18over here.
28:19Yeah.
28:20South Roots.
28:21South.
28:22On the street.
28:23Lake.
28:24And also.
28:25Cows?
28:26No, no, no.
28:27Women can not sing cows.
28:28Oh, okay.
28:29No, no, no.
28:30They're bad at negotiating.
28:31Negotiating.
28:32Yeah.
28:33Negotiating.
28:34Yeah.
28:35Negotiating.
28:36Yeah.
28:37Negotiating.
28:38They can negotiate.
28:39Yeah.
28:40They can negotiate.

31:11They sell in here.
31:12They don't buy.
31:13Yeah.
31:14But the people that came from the town.
31:15Yeah.
31:16They got the meat for their hotels.
31:18Okay.
31:19The market was in too.

32:28That's the best way I can explain it.
32:29And you've gone to some other land where they don't use money for the most part.
32:34They use their wealth is calculated in how many goats and cows they have.
32:35And they're not really on social media.
