I'm expecting everyone in Burnley to know what Beat the Street is because
00:03
Beat the Street, Burnley is the home of Beat the Street.
00:06
It's a game that turns the town into a playground.
00:09
Everyone can play, every adult, every child is invited.
00:13
Starts the 14th of May, there's going to be a hundred odd beatboxes,
00:17
like one you see behind today.
00:19
They're going to be put on street furniture and in parks and in the town centre,
00:22
by primary schools, by the canal and riverside, all across Burnley.
00:27
14th of May, you get a card, you tap it, it starts your journey.
00:32
You tap a second one, it completes one trip and you get ten points.
00:36
You can keep playing, keep getting points.
00:38
Those points go on your own leaderboard, on your team leaderboard and for the whole town.
00:44
Last time in 2023, we had 12,500 people play, I think.
00:49
It's absolutely magnificent.
00:51
So hopefully, weather stays something like this,
00:53
we're hoping more people will come out and play Beat the Street and Burnley.
00:56
Today, we're here at the launch of Burnley Outdoor Town.
01:00
Your entire town has realised the value and the assets that you've got in the town.
01:05
We've just seen a video of all the amazing parks, the waterways,
01:09
you can outside, all the mountains around.
01:12
It's an incredible venue and that is really good for your health.
01:15
There's a huge amount of evidence now that shows spending time outdoors,
01:19
in green spaces or blue spaces and being active is one of the best things you can do,
01:23
whether you're a child or an adult at any age.
01:26
So yes, you're taking control of your health and by doing it with other people,
01:30
you're encouraging everybody and creating this incredible outdoor town atmosphere.
