Thom Tillis Says July 4th Target Set By Trump Admin For Passage Of GOP's Reconciliation Bill Isn't Likely

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) said that a July 4th target for the passage of a reconciliation bill is not likely while speaking with reporters on Tuesday.

00:05you guys at that point, and what are the big hurdles?

00:07I just can't imagine we get it done by that.

00:09I mean, I'm not a chair, so you may want to talk to the chairs.

00:12There's a lot of moving parts.

00:14I don't even think we're at a point now to where we're trying to play out the

00:17instructions in each of the committees.

00:19And are you saying July 4th to send a bill to the president or

00:22to actually send it to the president?

00:24Yes, that's what, yes.

00:26Well, sounds like a great aspirational target, but based on,

00:31I've been gone for two weeks, but based on my understanding of the progress,

00:35I think that'd be a, that's a steep hill.

00:37What are the biggest hurdles that you guys are going to try to work through to get that?

00:42Well, you know, it's a couple of things.

00:43One is still agreeing, and we've been talking about this for several months.

00:46It's on the contours of what goes beyond TCJA.

00:51Some of us have expressed concerns about doing the non-pro growth policies

00:55when we have the challenge of trying to hit a $1.5 to $2 trillion target for cuts.

01:00And the non-pro growth policies are about $1.5 trillion additional work

01:05to get to that net $1.5 to $2 trillion.

01:08So all of those are still open.

01:10I'm not aware of any consensus even within one of the bodies,

01:14let alone a bicameral consensus.

01:16And that work has to be done.

01:18But, you know, we're eight weeks away, six legislative weeks.
