00:00The one meal a day diet is a type of intermittent fasting that promises theoretical success of
00:06weight loss and better health. Basically, you consume all of your calories in one meal,
00:11eaten within one hour. So you're fasting for 23 hours of your day. According to Science Alert,
00:18the diet means you can eat whatever you want, provided it can fit on a standard dinner plate.
00:24You can drink calorie-free drinks throughout the day, and consistency is key. Some advocates claim
00:31it delays the aging process and boosts your metabolism through psychological changes in
00:36the body. However, research into the one meal a day diet is limited. Many studies focus on
00:43short-term results only, and a recent study conducted by the New England Journal of Medicine
00:48confirmed any long-term weight loss achieved with the diet was not superior and was instead
00:54on par with results achieved by traditional dieting approaches. The foreseeable issues with it
01:00include nutritional deficiencies and health issues, the fact that it is not sustainable
01:05and that quick fixes don't work.
