'They've been sleepwalking': George Bennett on Walsall's faltering automatic promotion hopes

00:00It does feel like they've kind of been sleepwalking their way into the situation.

00:03We've kind of been fearing the worst for some time

00:06and just hoping that eventually they'll turn things around.

00:08And, you know, the worst thing that could have possibly happened,

00:11I know they won that game in the immediate aftermath of Lowe's recall

00:14when they beat MK Don's 4-2.

00:18And it's kind of like, well, you know, normal service resumes without Lowe.

00:22And clearly that proved a false dawn.

00:23And the worst thing that could have happened then

00:24was to lose those two games against Bradford,

00:27which was a massive blow to the confidence levels within the camp.

00:34And then, you know, that 2-0 defeat against Fleetwood,

00:37which was, you know, an absolutely dreadful night.

00:41And to be fair, I picked up something from the times

00:45that were shared by a few Walsall fans yesterday.

00:48And it says Walsall's points per game in their first 25 League 2 fixtures this season

00:52had them heading for the best league campaign of any team outside the top flight

00:56since 1946 and 47.

01:00But their rate of points gathering in their 20 subsequent matches

01:04would have them relegated from the division in 13 of the past 15 seasons.
