Special Vaibhav can have a long, successful career for India: RR batting coach

Rajasthan Royals batting coach Vikram Rathour said 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi is a special talent with the potential to enjoy a long and successful career in Indian cricket.

00:08I mean, we've been watching it in nets for the last few months.

00:12We knew what he's capable of and what kind of shots he can play.

00:15But to do it in front of this kind of crowd and in a situation like this

00:20against a really, really good bowling attack, I think it was really special.

00:24And a lot of credit to him.

00:26How does he generate so much power at this, given that he's only 14 years old?

00:34As I said, he's a special talent, I think.

00:37And then he's got a great downswing if you want to go into technique.

00:41In technical stuff, he's got a great downswing.

00:44So that helps him, I think, generate this kind of power.

00:47And today he just showed everybody actually how good he is.

00:51So again, you know, I don't think we could stop talking about that knock.

00:55As what would you rate?

00:56You know, you've played a lot of cricket.

01:04I think for a 14-year-old kid to play like this, that definitely makes him special.

01:08And as I said earlier, we've been looking at him.

01:11We saw him first time maybe four months back when he came for the trials.

01:15And from that way onwards, we always knew, all of us knew that we found something special.

01:20And it was on us to nurture him actually and bring him to this level.

01:25And a lot of credit to him that he kept his nerves, he has a solid head on his shoulders.

01:31He had a great temperament today.

01:34Even the couple of games that he played earlier also, he showed what he is capable of.

01:39And today was extraordinary innings from him.

01:42I mean, it's very difficult to describe it in two words, but as I said, all the words that

01:53have been used earlier, exceptional knock, spectacular knock, you know, the kind of power he generates,

01:59the kind of positions he gets into, and cleanly he hits the ball, everything is special about that kid.

02:17And if he keeps going and if he keeps working hard, he is going to have a long, long career in Indian cricket ahead of him, yeah.

02:26How motivating this victory is after losing three, three defeats in a row.

02:33And for the future we did.

02:35Yeah, it is, yeah.

02:37All three games that we lost before this were, I mean, we got into position where we should have,

02:42where we should have won all three actually.

02:44We got into winning positions and then still managed to lose.

02:47And that's how this game goes sometimes, you know.

02:50You can't pinpoint where we lost those three games because I thought personally that we played really well.

02:55in all three, but it's good to cross the line.

02:59It's good to come back and win a game like this, so it feels special.

03:04And there's always hope and it's, it's a, we are not here for, I know every season is important,

03:11but it's a long term vision as well.

03:13You know, we picked a young team and I think, you know, looking the way they played today,

03:18if we can carry on doing that, we, we have a special team.

03:28Do you think that things came to, like, considering the season, was it too late for you,

03:35that you can still rescue the season or are you building the sport for the next season,

03:39considering Webber is one of the most talented players in the squad?

03:43I mean, we still have four games to go and if we win all four,

03:46I'm not sure whether we are in a position to qualify or not,

03:49but 14 can get, get you into the playoffs sometimes.

03:53So, fingers crossed, we're looking to, and at this stage we're just taking it one game at a time.

03:59We're looking to play good cricket and we know we are capable of playing good cricket.

04:03And as I said, even the last three games that we lost, which were so tight,

04:06you know, we did play a good cricket.

04:08So, it's heartening to win a game like this and, again, from here onwards,

04:12we are looking to play one game at a time and looking to win one.

04:24It's too early to say that and it's unfair, I think, on the game,

04:28to compare him to Sachit Dendulkar.

04:31As I said, he's a new Webber Suryavanshi.

04:34He's a special kid and he's a special talent.

04:37If he keeps working hard, he'll have a special place in Indian cricket, I'm sure.

04:41So, we've seen what Webber is like on the field, right from the first ball,

04:45he has a lot of confidence.

04:47What has he been like behind the scenes in the nets,

04:51with a lot of bid names around, has that intimidated him?

04:55What has his work ethics been like?

04:57Could you just shed some light on that?

05:00He's been exactly like what you see on the pitch, actually.

05:04I don't think he's intimidated by anybody.

05:07He's one guy who takes on Jofra in the nets.

05:10Jofra is maybe one of the toughest bowlers to face in the nets

05:14because he's so awkward and he bowls quick.

05:16But he's the one who really bats against him and really takes him on.
