00:00Good morning. My name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor at Sussex Newspapers. Lovely this morning to speak to Sophie Carl. Sophie, you're in Bexhill, but you are currently making a film in Chichester. Now, you've got to be a little bit careful about not saying too much about this film, haven't you?
00:17But it's called Is It? Is It? Without a question mark. And it's sci-fi, filming in various locations in Chichester. Should be finished by the middle of May, perhaps?
00:32Indeed, yes.
00:33Set the scene. What's the starting point? Again, not giving away time.
00:36Oh, no, no. So, well, hello, first of all. Thank you for having me.
00:40Very exciting. And yes, so we have a male lead actor who comes in and moves into a village. And then reality gets confused with fiction. So the people he meets, does he actually meet them for real? Or are they part of another universe? That's kind of a setting.
01:04And you, you are part of that confusion, aren't you? Are you real?
01:08I am. Well, if I'm real, you'll have to see the movie to realise if I'm real or not. But yes, I do come as two characters. That's all I can say about that.
01:22And is it going to be a full-length film? Or is it a short film? What is it?
01:26It's a two-part live-action movie, two short films leading into a feature film. And the feature film is being filmed later this year.
01:39It sounds brilliant. And it's been made by the Chichester filmmakers, isn't it?
01:43Yes, so Chichester filmmakers love them. And they are producing this film. And I always trust them. I always say to everyone, let's, you know, let's bring the community of Chichester together.
01:55Even though I'm not there all the time, I'm really trying my best to just get involved as much as possible.
02:01And yes, and it's directed by Jay Natarajan. First time director, but she's been a part of amazing sets before. Visual effect artist, one of the best in the industry.
02:16He's done Despicable 3, Maleficent, Jupiter Ascending, and so on. And then you've got Jake Allen, who's also there doing some DOP work.
02:26Incredible guy. And Paul Burton, one of my favourite editors to work with. He's part of the Old Chapel Studios. And I mean, big shout out to him. He's also edited my feature film. And fantastic guy.
02:43Well, it sounds super exciting. You're making it at the moment. Let me know when it's going to be screened and when people can see it. But good luck for the remainder. And lovely to see you. Thank you.
