00:00Committed to the poor, migrants and the environment, Pope Francis dedicated his pontificates to the most disadvantaged.
00:11But was he really so progressive?
00:13The pontiff dedicated his first visits to the Italian island of Lampedusa,
00:18where he paid tributes to the migrants who died in the Mediterranean
00:22and denounced what he calls the globalization of indifference to their fate.
00:27He was a person for peace, a person for human dignity,
00:32and he always called out when people were mistreated
00:39and when migrants were being scapegoated and demonized by not at least forces here in this parliament also.
00:47While the head of the church has opened his blessing to homosexual couples,
00:51the door to religious marriage remains closed to them.
00:55Advances in women's rights have been largely absent from his pontificate.
00:59During a visit to Belgium, the Pope described abortion doctors as hired killers and compared abortion to homicide.
01:07He did not see that to have restrictions on the right, the sexual reproductive rights of women will not end up the abortions.
01:19The only thing that will make is this abortions to be unsafe and not accessible for all women.
01:29So, it was a man carrying a lot of inequalities, but it seems that this gender inequalities and this lack of rights of women were not in his mind.
01:42According to the Spanish MEP, this was a missed opportunity.
01:46And the question remains, was the Pope unable or unwilling to reform the church?
