00:00Throughout our nation's history, we have asked brave men and women to put service ahead of
00:18self. The soldiers, sailors and aviators of the Australian Defence Force have answered the call
00:24to defend Australia and to promote security and stability in our region and across the globe.
00:31Across different eras and conflicts, our nation has remained steadfast in its commitment to
00:36collective security and international cooperation. From the hills of Gallipoli to the Owen Stanley
00:42Range, from the fields of Long Tan to Urzgan province and across the wide expanse of the
00:48world's seas and oceans, Australia's Defence Force is committed to promoting peace and stability.
00:54In 2025, alongside the 110th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings, we commemorate a number
01:02of other significant anniversaries of Australian military engagement. We remember the 80th anniversary
01:10of the end of World War II, the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, and we mark
01:1835 years since the start of Gulf War I. In 2025, we also commemorate the 75th anniversary of the start
01:27of the Korean War. And in 1950, Australian forces joined the United Nations Coalition to defend South
01:35Korea from the invasion by the North. This marked the first time Australian forces were deployed under the
01:41United Nations banner. Australia's involvement in the Korean War also contributed to the formation of
01:48the Anza Treaty, solidifying our partnership with the United States and New Zealand, bonds that remain
01:54steadfast to this day. Often referred to as the Forgotten War today, we remember the courage of the
02:01Australian soldiers who braved harsh winters, rugged terrain, and fierce battles in places like Cap Yon and
02:09Myung San. We recall the daring of the RAAF air crews flying almost 19,000 salties in conditions that melted the
02:17bitumen of the runways and froze thick ice and snow to the aircraft. And we reflect on the bravery of the crews of
02:23His Majesty's Australian ships, Sydney, Bataan, Waramunga, and Anzac, providing combat support and patrolling the
02:30Korean coast to enforce blockades and heavily mined waters.
