00:00Can you give us some background on why Pakistan is deporting these Afghans?

00:05Well, this really is a saga that I've been following pretty much as long as I've had a professional career.

00:12And I've got grey hairs now.

00:15The Pakistanis adopted their latest policy for expulsion of what they described as illegal migrants at the end of 2023.

00:27And this is a second round of it.

00:30They blame the involvement of some of the Afghan refugees in security incidents and in crime.

00:39And more generally say that they've overstayed their welcome, that they are illegal in the country.
