00:00Arab leaders should take heed of the courage displayed by the late Pope Francis in speaking up for the Palestinians,

00:08Amanat President Mohammad Sabu said today.

00:11In a Facebook post, Mohammad, also known as Matt Sabu, said Francis, who passed away on Monday,

00:17stood by the Palestinians while Arab leaders chose to remain silent and collude with those oppressing the community.

00:24He said Francis' stand on the matter contrasted with that of other world leaders who prioritize political power over humanity.

00:32Meanwhile, he told FMT religious leaders should not become doormats to governments that have lost their sense of humanity.

00:39Matt Sabu said Pope Francis' call for peace and his condemnation of genocide came from a pure heart,

00:45showing us that peace and humanity are values that transcend religion.

00:49In January, Francis ramped up criticism of Israel's military campaign in Gaza,

00:54calling the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian enclave very serious and shameful.

01:00Francis passed away on April 21 after a stroke and subsequent heart failure,

01:04hours after delivering the traditional Easter blessing from the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica.
