00:00I'm Brittany Cole. And I'm Quentin Cole. And welcome to our Essence Bridal Bliss story.
00:12So meeting Quentin for the first time in 2010, I was on campus at Spelman College and he attended
00:19Morehouse College. So we were right next door and my dorm, Abby Hall, and his dorm, Hubert Hall,
00:26had like a welcome brother-sister meeting. And so we met for the first time and I met his friends and
00:35then he met my friend and then we really kicked it off. We actually were playing invisible basketball
00:40with no ball. And so that was kind of like our first kickoff when I met him and he became my bestie.
00:49When I first met Brittany, I always thought that she was super cool. Like that was like the main
00:54thing that always drew me to it was her personality. She has an infectious personality that everybody
00:59just, you know, is a magnetic too to be able to get drawn in by, which I was, you know, fell into
01:06that as well too. So going from friends and being a couple was amazing because we still stayed friends
01:13through it all. We actually connected here because he worked for the Falcons and I worked for the
01:20Oakland Raiders at the time. And we connected here and kind of like, we're like, oh, okay,
01:26this could kind of work. And, you know, we went our separate ways and then we reconnected.
01:32What was that? A couple months, four months, five months?
01:35Yeah, like, like four or five months.
01:37Four or five months. He kind of got his act together and came back and we started seeing like,
01:44okay, like, I think we like each other. Like, let's try this out. But also it was like long
01:49distance was really hard. So we had to travel back and forth. So like he would come here and we would
01:55go on dates and then I would go to Atlanta and we would go on dates. And so in 2019, we made it
02:04official and I was working at Twitter at the time. And I told all my family and friends, like,
02:10I'm moving for Twitter to New York. So I'm leaving. And in my vows, actually, I told everyone like I
02:18was really moving so I could be closer to Quentin. So and they all said they knew that. So, okay.
02:26But yeah, so I moved to New York and we kind of kicked off things and we didn't have to do long
02:32distance anymore. So that was really, it was really great. I always tell people from the beginning of
02:37our relationship, what I always truly didn't take for granted was our friendship. Like it was
02:43somebody who knew me from the core, like seeing me through college, after college, still being able
02:49to keep that relationship. So that was like the base of our relationship was our friendship. So no
02:55matter what we went through at the end of the day, that was something I always appreciated that we
02:59respected that. So she respects me in a way that, you know, no other females ever really gave me before
03:06which I always appreciated. And like I said, just with her personality, the way that she's so loving
03:12and caring, all of her friends know, you know, if you know Brittany, you know exactly what I'm
03:16talking about. But that was something that just always drew me into her for how she just carried
03:22herself. So that's, yeah, I mean, it was always something there, but just going about it in the
03:27right way. It was a slow walk into getting to where we're at right now, but it paid off though.
03:37I came up with an idea to where I'll have my first art show because I do paintings and this is one of
03:44my paintings in the back of Kendrick Lamar, but we can get to that later. But I wanted to be able to
03:51put on an art show for my friends and family to be able to, you know, just gather around, have a good
03:57time in my hometown, right in the DMV area. And that was something that she wouldn't expect at all.
04:04So we were able to put together, you know, the art show, I think it was around, that was in July.
04:12Yeah. And I was like, towards the end of July, July 23rd, don't forget your engagement day, fellas.
04:17But, but so, so how I ended up going was she went to Texas for her grandmother's to celebrate her
04:27grandmother's birthday earlier in the month. And when she was gone, I actually painted a whole
04:33picture of us from when we were in Turks and Caicos for her 30th birthday. So when I put that
04:40together, I put a, like a unveiling, a black sheet over the painting that she thought I was
04:47revealing to everybody where she saw me actually paint another painting. She thought I was revealing
04:52it to everybody. And I want to be that one because I help with a certain touch. Yeah. She helped with
04:59a certain touch. I'm, I'm in the house. She's helping me like, you know, put it together, letting
05:03her do her two cents thinking, Oh, this is going to be great when everybody sees it. So when I pulled the
05:08unveiling back and she saw that it wasn't the painting I was working on, it was a painting
05:13of me and her, she was like, wait, what? And then that's where all eyes just kind of like
05:19went to her because everybody else knew what was happening. And she, I mean, I don't even
05:24know if you have the video or she shared it, but it's a moment where she like literally stumbles
05:29like, she was like, she's about to pass out. I was like, I hit a Wendy Williams.
05:32Yeah. She almost passed out in the moment. I was like, all right, let's not do that. But, uh, so, so it was a great
05:39moment. She was completely shocked, had no clue, had her, um, family and friends come, um, to support and
05:46everything like that. So it was, it was a beautiful moment and worked out in my favorite. Cause I, one, I pulled off the
05:52surprise too. I was able to, you know, propose to the love of my life. And it was just an amazing
05:58moment and something, you know, we'll always remember for the rest of our lives.
06:01Oh, a hundred percent better. The wedding planning process for me was stress-free in the beginning.
06:10And it was a happy time for like me and Quentin to really see like, oh, he likes this and I like this.
06:17And wedding planning was fun. I actually miss wedding planning. Um, I wish I could go back.
06:22Yeah. Oh, didn't know that. Yeah, I do. I do miss it. It was just fun because my planners were
06:29amazing. Like Pamela and Jimena, like from Amy Abbott, like they are top tier. They did not miss
06:36any detail. I, we weren't stressed. I sent them a list of everything I wanted. They brought it to
06:43life. We had a site visit in Cabo, Mexico, and it was just amazing. I didn't miss anything. So I've
06:52been to a few weddings where it's been like chaotic. There was no chaos at all. None.
06:57Yeah. Our planner with, um, with Pamela was amazing. Um, everything went to the T the whole
07:03weekend to where we literally showed up and everything was a dream. Like everybody was a
07:07part of our wedding. They was like, man, like this was the best experience ever. So definitely
07:13get that wedding planner, uh, specifically Pamela. Pamela, we love you. Being able to actually
07:18see her and the way that she looked was just, you know, it was just something else. Um, and
07:24I was, I was definitely amazed and just how she looked and yeah, she was looking good. I was ready
07:29to attack her for real, but I ain't want to mess her makeup up though. You know, so the ceremony was
07:37absolutely stunning. Um, our vision came to life. I really want to be on the water. I want to be black
07:45excellent. So I had all of our guests in black. Um, it's very important to me to honor my mom. My mom is a
07:53single parent. And so she raised me and did her best and I'm always thankful and grateful for her.
08:01And so it was important for me, for her to walk me down the aisle. Um, I feel like, you know,
08:05the tradition is for your dad to walk you down. My dad wasn't present. So her walking me down the
08:10aisle, I just, just holding her hand. I was nervous. I was crying. And so it's always like your mom's
08:17biggest dream to have, you know, your daughter to get married. And so it was so special. Like it was
08:22very, very special. Um, I cried beginning to end. So seeing everyone walked down before me and then
08:30my grandmother and his grandmother and his mom. So it was just, it was just so beautiful. And so
08:36also seeing him and then my mom walking me down was just, all my emotions were everywhere. I just
08:43was super grateful and blessed to have such a beautiful family there with me and supporting us
08:49on our big day. Writing my vows was something that was, uh, heavily thought of like going into it. I
08:57mean, I was getting it from her. I mean, we're talking December being away. She probably was talking
09:02about her vows in like February, January, like super early. And I'm like, man, like this is something
09:10that I gotta be ready on my game. Um, so I just didn't want to mess up. I didn't want to mess up with
09:16reading what I wrote and just sounding crazy up there. Um, but I, I made it through. I would say
09:22that she probably won the emotions for everybody who was like listening to the vows. I said my vows,
09:28everybody was like, Oh, that's so cute. She said her vows. I'm looking out, everybody crying. You got
09:34people wiping snot from their nose. I'm like, dang, did I, did I do a good job? Like so, but anyways,
09:41no, it was, it was really good. And, um, I made it through at least getting through my vows without,
09:46you know, boo-hoo and crying. So we chose Mexico for our destination because if we would have had
09:53our wedding in California, Maryland or Atlanta, we would have had 400 guests because he knows the
10:02whole world. I have a lot of friends and family as well all over. So it was really intentional to have a
10:09destination wedding to one, get the guest count down, but also me and Quentin love the water.
10:14The reception was, that was a dream for real. It was turned up. Um, starting off from, you know,
10:21jumping the room into the cocktail hour. Uh, we had people, you know, who was a part of the wedding
10:26party. Uh, like we was in the club. They had the signs saying the Coles. What's next for us is to
10:33travel the world. That's what's next for us before the baby's gone, because I'm trying to get a few
10:39countries in then, then baby Coles, you know? So what's next right now is for us just to be enjoyed,
10:46being married, um, before we take on those, that next big responsibilities, um, of, of babies. But
10:53we hear you mom, they coming, but on our time, um, just as far as with my paintings, like I said,
11:01uh, you guys can check, check me out on at Q Cole on Instagram, um, all my paintings, but this is my
11:07most recent painting I've done. Uh, this is Kendrick Lamar, a big, uh, KDOT fan. And, uh, I was just
11:13inspired from the last album of GNX. Um, so this was like the, uh, popular photo that people have seen
11:19of him where he got this deranged type look. I love the, uh, I love the background of this.
11:25One of my favorite songs on the album is called Man in the Garden. Um, and so I just wanted to
11:30kind of paint a picture of him with that look of him roaming the garden at night. Uh, and if you get
11:36closer into it, uh, there's an actual goat in his eye. Um, obviously everybody knows the, the Dre
11:42Kendrick battle. I, you know, say what you want, but KDOT won the battle for sure. Um, so, and then one of
11:48the lines, Hey, now he says, uh, the black Noah, I just strangled me a goat. Um, referring to the
11:54whole beef, uh, you know, winning over Drake. So the goat in his eyes is reflecting, like I'm about
11:59to get them, you know? And so this is the whole thing together and just really put together how I
12:04feel towards the album and everything that KDOT is doing. Um, you know, so I just wanted to put
12:08that together. Hopefully we can get KDOT to, uh, you know, sign it. That would be amazing.
12:13He will sign it. He will sign it. We'll manifest that. So anybody out there that has that connection
12:18to make it happen, holla at your boy. Call me. I'm the manager. The advice I would give to couples
12:25is all about you and him. That's it. No one else matters. Everyone's going to be in your ear. It's
12:31about what you and him want because you guys will look back and be like, wow, we had the time of our
12:37life. Or you'll look back and be like, I did everything they wanted me to do. And we didn't do
12:42anything we want to do. Planner. Do not skip the planner. I'm telling you, it's the best money you
12:48will ever spend. Planner. And you don't have to go with traditions. You could do anything you want to
12:56do. Add it. Jump the broom. Don't jump the broom. You could do anything you want to do. But remember
13:01to have fun, enjoy yourself, and try to be next to your partner the whole day because it goes by so fast.
