00:06in a move that has sparked political controversy and divided public opinion.

00:12This marks the first time in the nation's history that a sitting Chief Justice has been suspended.

00:17President John Muhammad's administration claimed the suspension is necessary to allow a fair investigation.

00:23However, opposition leaders accused the President of interfering in the judiciary

00:27and attempted to install judges sympathetic to the ruling National Democratic Congress and D.C. Party.

00:34Former Attorney General Godfrey Yeboha Dami condemned the action as the biggest assault on the judiciary in the nation's history,

00:41citing procedural missteps, including the delayed delivery of the petitions to the Chief Justice.

00:47Tokono, who was appointed in 2023 as Ghana's third female Chief Justice, has no public response to the allegations.
