00:00
Dave, what's up in quick sports, man?
00:01
Okay, basketball, we're going to start with that.
00:04
The Knicks played pretty well against Milwaukee last night,
00:08
but they just couldn't beat Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucs.
00:12
Final score, Bucs 109, Knicks 103.
00:15
It was a tight game back and forth throughout,
00:17
but eventually the Bucs made the shots at the end to win the game.
00:21
Giannis had 37 points, 13 rebounds, and 7 assists,
00:25
as the Knicks dropped to 10-12.
00:27
The Bucs improved to 15-5.
00:30
One personal observation is that the Knicks are beating the teams
00:34
they're supposed to beat this year, and that is a good thing.
00:37
But if they want to get to that next level,
00:42
they have to win some of these games against the elite of the East.
00:45
I hear what you're saying.
00:46
The Milwaukee Bucs are an elite Eastern Conference team.
00:50
Giannis is an amazing player.
00:52
They won the championship a couple years ago,
00:54
and the Knicks were right there throughout the whole game,
00:57
but they can't get over the hump and win the game.
00:59
They've got to close out in the fourth quarter against the elite teams.
01:03
That's a good point, man.
01:03
If they do that, I'd still like the Knicks' chances to make the playoffs this year.
01:09
Meanwhile, the Nets looked good.
01:11
They defeated the Wizards 113-107.
01:13
Brooklyn's Kevin Durant, 39 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists in the win,
01:17
as the Nets are now 12-11.
01:20
The 76ers lost to the Cavs, 113-85.
01:23
Joel Embiid had 19 points, but that was not enough to prevent the Sixers from losing the game.
01:29
They are now 12-10.
01:32
Hockey.
01:32
The Rangers beat the Senators 3-1.
01:34
Chris Crider had a goal in the Ranger victory.
01:38
He continues to play well.
01:39
The Devils and Flyers were off.
01:41
This evening, the Devils face the Predators at the Prudential Center,
01:44
and the Flyers play the Lightning in Philly.
01:48
Baseball, the Toronto Blue Jays bringing in Don Mattingly as a bench coach.
01:53
Oh, that's fun.
01:54
Donnie, of course, was a star with the Yankees,
01:56
and previously managed the Dodgers and then the Marlins,
01:59
where he won the National League Manager of the Year.
02:02
Surprised that if he's available, the Yankees wouldn't consider him for a bench coach.
02:05
I agree totally with that.
02:08
That's like a homecoming.
02:09
That's like a feel-good for us fans.
02:11
And also, Joe Torre would always speak highly of his bench coach, who was Don Zimmer.
02:16
Yeah.
02:17
And that is kind of like his right-hand man.
02:19
That's where you get some opinions and you get some ideas from.
02:22
So you could have had a former Manager of the Year sitting next to Boone,
02:26
but I guess they didn't want to go that route.
02:29
Football.
02:30
Maybe Boone's not staying.
02:33
No, they just re-signed him.
02:34
And Hal Steinbrenner said in the offseason, the one person who's definitely safe is Aaron Boone.
02:41
He's coming back for a few more years.
02:43
Football, weird story here.
02:45
The Washington Post published a photo of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in 1957 at age 14,
02:53
where he's in Little Rock, Arkansas, and there were black students trying to enter a school,
02:58
and there are white students preventing black students from entering the school.
03:02
Jerry Jones is in the photo.
03:04
He's kind of in the back, but he is there, and he's having to answer these questions.
03:11
Jerry Jones says he was just curious to see what was going on,
03:14
was not participating in blocking anyone from entering the school.
03:17
But kind of an interesting story.
03:20
Weird place to show up.
03:21
You also start to think, like, you know, you go back, you know, when the guy's 14, you know, is that, I mean, he's now 80.
03:31
Yeah, I mean.
03:31
You'd like to hope, what I'm saying is that he's grown.
03:34
Learned through whatever was going on back then.
03:37
Yeah.
03:37
Like a lot of white people made some big mistakes back then.
03:41
Yeah.
03:41
And hopefully they've grown through that.
03:43
Yeah, and how did the Washington Post find this photo of a 1957 14-year-old Jerry Jones?
03:49
People are trying to find everything on everybody these days.
03:51
That's amazing to me.
03:53
Tonight kicks off week 13 of the NFL season.
03:56
We've got the 8-3 Bills taking on the 6-5 Patriots in New England.
04:02
If I may just say this, this will be the one game in which I'm okay with the Patriots cheating like the son of a bitch as we know they are.
04:13
Yeah, it's in the Jets' best interest.
04:14
Break out every cheat you possibly can to beat the Bills, okay?
04:18
It's in the Jets' best interest for Buffalo to lose.
04:22
And because they are right there, especially with the new king of New York, Mike White, as your quarterback.
04:29
Everybody is thick of it.
04:30
Broadway Mike.
04:30
What? You don't believe in Broadway Mike?
04:33
I do.
04:34
I mean, I loved that game.
04:36
It was one game against the Bears.
04:38
I watched the whole game.
04:39
Whose defense was falling apart.
04:41
It was great.
04:41
It was wonderful.
04:42
But let's not overstate this.
04:45
They competed.
04:46
The Bears competed.
04:48
Listen, all they said about Mike White is just do what Zach Wilson can't do, which is hit open screen passes.
04:55
That was a good start.
04:56
And open 10-yard passes.
04:58
We're not asking the Jets' QB to throw the ball down the field 60 yards in the fly.
05:03
But remember last year when Mike White came in and he had the best first NFL game of anyone in the history of the game?
05:12
Yeah, over 400 yards.
05:12
And then the next game he spit the bit?
05:15
Yeah, I do.
05:16
So I'm just saying, let's see how this plays out and not anoint him.
05:20
What did you say?
05:21
The king of New York?
05:22
King of New York, a.k.a.
05:24
Broadway Mike White.
05:25
Right.
05:25
Because I actually, and I'm a Giants fan, but here's the deal.
05:28
The Giants played on Thanksgiving.
05:30
I knew that they were going to lose.
05:31
They got it.
05:32
So as a result, 1 o'clock on Sunday was free.
05:35
Yeah.
05:35
And so I always go to my mom's to watch football at 1 o'clock.
05:38
So we ended up watching the Jets game from the beginning to the end.
05:41
So exciting.
05:42
And honestly, it reminds me of when I was a Giants fan in 1990.
05:47
And they didn't bench Phil Simms, but he got hurt.
05:51
And they brought in Jeff Hostetler.
05:53
And Bill Parcells told Hostetler, just make 10-yard passes down the field.
05:58
Hit your screen passes.
06:00
It's third and five, and you can take off for a first down.
06:03
Scramble a little bit.
06:04
Just don't make mistakes, dummy.
06:06
And that's what happened.
06:07
And guess what happened?
06:07
The Giants won the Super Bowl.
06:09
Maybe Mike White could do that.
06:10
We've got a shot at something.
06:13
Let's see what he does against the Vikings.
06:15
Well, you heard it from Carl Crafty.
06:17
The Jets are Super Bowl bound.
06:19
That's a Carl Craft guarantee that Mike White will be in the big game.
06:23
I don't think.
06:25
Did I put that in there?
06:26
Okay.
06:27
We're going to the Super Bowl.
06:29
Why not?
06:30
Take that.
06:31
That's it.
06:31
That's the belief I'm looking for.
06:33
That's your quick look at your score.
06:35
I'm a Jets fan.
06:35
We never make claims like that.
06:38
We ever, never, ever, never.
06:40
You've got to get that second Super Bowl.
06:42
It's starting to get ridiculous.
06:43
It is.
06:44
It's crazy.
