Dominic Scurr reflectson Jason Tindall's Newcastle United pre-match press conference ahead of Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.
Transcript
00:00Back outside the Newcastle United Media Centre, we've been speaking to Jason Tindall
00:04ahead of Newcastle United's Premier League match against Crystal Palace at St James' Park on Wednesday evening.
00:10Eddie Howe still absent, suffering from pneumonia.
00:14Club released a statement yesterday saying he would miss the Palace game
00:18and indeed the trip to Aston Villa on Saturday.
00:23Though Jason Tindall was asked extensively about Eddie Howe, he said no real contact.
00:27Contact has been minimal with the Newcastle United head coach.
00:31Jason Tindall's going to remain in charge effectively on an interim basis until further notice really
00:37because Jason Tindall did say that there's no time scale for Eddie Howe's return.
00:42He will only return when 100% fit and ready to do so.
00:47So yeah, for the time being, Jason Tindall's still taking charge of managerial duties in Eddie Howe's absence.
00:54And yeah, after such a big win against Manchester United on Sunday,
00:59Newcastle will be looking to carry on that momentum against Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening.
01:04Looking for a sixth win in a row in all competitions.
01:07That Carabao Cup win really sort of galvanised the side in their push for Champions League qualification.
01:13Up to fourth in the table, a draw or a win would take them up to third ahead of Nottingham Forest.
01:19So a win would take them five points inside the Champions League places with six games left to play.
01:25And then a real rival in terms of a competitor for the Champions League qualification places in Aston Villa to come on Saturday.
01:33So a real golden opportunity for Newcastle these next two games to consolidate their place in those Champions League positions.
01:40So yeah, it's a big opportunity.
01:43In terms of the team news, Newcastle will have Joe Willock back available after the club followed the concussion protocols.
01:50He picked up a concussion against Brentford, missed Leicester, missed Manchester United, but back available.
01:55And back, you'd imagine, on the bench for Wednesday night.
01:59I'd imagine Newcastle would go unchanged for a sixth game running.
02:03We've won the last five with the same line-up.
02:05Why change it?
02:06I think the one sort of question mark player who could come in, Anthony Gordon, after a suspension injury.
02:13But Harvey Barnes on that left wing has probably made himself undroppable in the side with, I think he's got two goals, obviously, on Sunday.
02:22A goal against Leicester and then two assists in the two games before that.
02:25So you're looking at two assists, three goals in his last four Premier League games.
02:30So he's pretty much undroppable at the moment, Harvey Barnes, though Anthony Gordon will be itching to get back involved and back on the pitch after a brief cameo in the closing stages against Manchester United on Sunday.
02:44So that's the situation for Newcastle United.
02:47No Eddie Howe tomorrow.
02:49Joe Willock back involved.
02:50And you'd imagine, barring any injuries to players training at the moment, that Jason Tindall will go unchanged again.
02:58And we'll have all the updates to come from Jason Tindall's press conference at the Newcastle United Media Centre and previewing the Crystal Palace game over on the Shields Gazette website and for myself at Dom Sker on X.
03:12So that's it and thanks for watching.
03:15We'll see you tomorrow night back at St James' Park for Newcastle United through Crystal Palace.
03:20Cheers.
