So we're here in Coronation Gardens and we're with our peace monument.
00:06
It's being commissioned and made by Midtherm and it is to commemorate the 80th anniversary
00:13
of the end of the Second World War. As you can see from our silhouettes we have airmen, sailors,
00:22
females, people from all religions so that it is all covered in our monument.
00:29
It's to commemorate not only the British armed forces but also armed forces from across the
00:36
Commonwealth as well. It will stay here until Armistice so it covers VE, VJ, the end of the
00:44
Falklands War, the Battle of Britain and also of course Armistice in November where we will add our
00:51
normal display of red poppies. This runs in conjunction with a peace concert that I've
00:57
organised which takes place at Dudley College on Thursday evening and again that is to commemorate
01:05
the armed forces from across the Commonwealth that have fought for the UK in all conflicts,
01:11
not just the two world wars. We have Bhangra dancers, we've got the Jewish faith is represented,
01:21
we've got a gospel choir, people from all faiths are included and the finale is the Sid Lawrence
01:28
Orchestra playing the Glenn Miller music. So it should be a fabulous night but our focus really is on this
01:35
peace monument which will stay here as Dudley's way of remembering. So on the letters, each of the letters
01:45
has holes in there and that is for people to leave their messages of hope for peace, loved ones that
01:54
they've lost in conflict or just a message of support really. They will then be collated and they will be
02:02
put into a time capsule and we will have a rosebush planted here in Coronation Gardens and those messages
02:11
will go under the rosebush. So there will always be this constant hope for peace here in Coronation Gardens.
