00:04There's one question you must ask about every person in your life,

00:07no matter how long you've known them.

00:09Does he or she ever make deposits in my life,

00:13or do they only make withdrawals?

00:15If the answer is withdrawals,

00:17then that's someone you need to distance yourself from immediately.

00:21Remember, no one only makes one withdrawal.

00:24Would you only go to an ATM that kept spitting out free money just once?

00:28Hell no.

00:29You would go every single day until the bank figured it out.

00:33Well, people are the same way.

00:35Until you shut them down,

00:36they will keep taking and taking until there's nothing left.

00:40I'm getting rid of all the people who only make withdrawals.

00:44I've already lost people who've meant the world to me,

00:47namely my mother and grandmother,

00:49and I'm still doing just fine.

00:51There is zero reason I can't cut all the other people that are trying to drain me

00:55instead of fill me up.

00:57This is why I don't particularly care if my father ever makes himself known to me.

01:02At this point, he would only be coming to make withdrawals from my life.

01:06There's nothing for him to deposit.

01:09I already have enough people like that in my life.

01:12Every day they look to make withdrawals from the bank of 50 cents.

01:16I've already discussed the people who are straight up looking for monetary handout,

01:20but just as frequently,

01:21it's people seeking my association on its own.

01:24Hey, we got this phenomenal idea that could be a hit and make us some money, they say,

01:29before getting to the catch.

01:30We just need you to make it work.

01:33I'm not looking to partner with people like that anymore.

01:36I want to be associated with concepts or ideas that could work with or without me.

01:41I want to be around talented folks who can help lift me higher,

01:44not people who want to piggyback off my success.

01:47The first time I ever met Mark Wahlberg was at dinner with a group of people I just met.

01:53I ate my food, hung out a bit, and then went to the restroom.

01:57On the way back, I decided I'd been there longer than I needed to be,

02:01so I paid the check.

02:02When I got back to the table, I told the group,

02:05Yo, I'm running out.

02:06See you guys later.

02:07Great meeting everyone.

02:09And don't worry about the bill.

02:10I took care of it.

02:11I didn't do that to be a big shot.

02:13It's just a role I've gotten comfortable in.

02:15Mark couldn't believe it.

02:18What? You did what?

02:19He said, almost jumping out of his seat.

02:21Wait a fucking minute.

02:22Wait a minute.

02:23I finally found a guy who can find his fucking pockets and he's leaving?

02:27Bro, we got to get together.

02:28We got to hang out.

02:29He was excited because he was always the guy people expected to pay the tab.

02:34Now, someone was finally willing to make a deposit.

02:37That caught his attention.

02:39We've ended up becoming good friends after that night,

02:42and Mark's made plenty of deposits into my life.

02:44He's someone who already did the rapper-turned-TV executive thing

02:48with Entourage and Bulwark Empire,

02:50and he's given me a lot of valuable advice and insight.

02:53I would never have made that connection with him

02:55if I hadn't reached for my wallet that night.

02:58I know everyone reading this isn't in a position

03:00to pay for a fancy meal in an L.A. restaurant,

03:03but you are in a position to make deposits with the right people.

03:07Professionally, you can always contribute to morale,

03:10no matter what position you're in.

03:11If you're part of a team, it doesn't cost a cent

03:14to be the one with the positive attitude.

03:16That doesn't mean you have to kiss your boss's ass or be fake.

03:19You just have to stay upbeat about things.

03:22Be the person who doesn't bitch and moan

03:23when you get a tough job or assignment.

03:26Be the person who is smiling and open to interacting with coworkers,

03:29instead of putting on headphones and hiding behind a computer screen.

03:32Be diplomatic and try to identify a resolution

03:35when your coworkers aren't getting along.

03:36The easiest deposit you can make at work,

03:40but one that will pay off in the long run,

03:42is just to show up on time.

03:44You have no idea how aggravating it is for a boss

03:46when employees just roll in whatever.

03:48It might be tempting to think,

03:50well, if it was my company, I'd get there early.

03:52But why would I rush over there to make these guys money?

03:55If that's your attitude, you're never going to get your own company.

03:58This is definitely an issue I struggle with

04:01concerning my own employees.

04:03As I said earlier,

04:04one of my weak points is that I like to be comfortable in the workplace.

04:07I like to be around people I know and trust.

04:10Unfortunately, the comfort that I'm looking for

04:12can make the entire environment too relaxed.

04:15After some time,

04:16people start to forget that they have real responsibilities

04:18I'm paying them for.

04:21That's when they start making their own schedules.

04:23They might think I don't notice, but I do.
