The Great Outdoors: Doing a walking tour of The Treehouse’s Birdhouses

New hotel in Manchester, The Treehouse, has set up a number of birdboxes around the city to help the local wildlife and encourage people to get out and about over Easter - so that’s exactly what we did.

00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World on a lovely, lovely day in Manchester and boy oh boy am I glad it's a lovely day

00:06because the theme for today's video is all about the great outdoors.

00:10Now here in Manchester we've got a ton of great places that you could go to relax or unwind

00:14but we wanted to make this video have sort of a purpose really, something that was a bit more entertaining for you

00:19and as luck would have it, new opening in Manchester, the Treehouse Hotel, have set up nine awesome looking bird boxes

00:26across the city as a little trail. Now they're inspired by the National Trust and the idea is to try and support local wildlife

00:32so let's go. And we started off in the perfectly sunny Mayfield Park. Because I don't want to ruin the trail

00:38I'm not going to show you the exact location of all of them but to be honest this one took me quite a while to find

00:43it's way up in this tree behind me and that's Depot Mayfield. I mean what a great sunbathing spot

00:49we've not had all of the nice weather so it's definitely worth a visit but on to the next

00:54and from there it was into the Gay Village towards the famous Sackville Gardens

00:58So number two, the Sackville Gardens. I'll give you a clue, the bird box is somewhere behind me here

01:02and this is right in the centre of the Gay Village, another massively important part of Manchester

01:07That's stop number two. Over there to a bit less of a traditional sort of sunbathing

01:12and nature place really in St Peter's Square but when the sun catches it in the way that it did today

01:17it really was lovely and right down at the bottom of St Peter's Square you can see the bird box here

01:22it's possibly the best view that you get of them and then from there over towards the Science and Industry Museum

01:26to Castlefield. Now this is right near the Science and Industry Museum, another lovely little green area

01:31give it a quick look around, I promise you you'll find this one quickly

01:34So this is actually two stops in one, we've got Manchester Cathedral here and one

01:38and to here the Glade of Light which was opened by a couple of members of the Royal Family back in 2022

01:46I'm going to show you one of them, which is the Glade of Light one, I'm not going to show you exactly where it is

01:50but I'll show you that it's there, but the Manchester Cathedral one I'm afraid you're on your own

01:55Now, we're near the end, let's keep going

01:57So I'm on Bengal Street now which is our third from last stop, after this is Angel Meadow

02:01and so far this is the first one that probably stands out as not really being a grassy area where you might hang out

02:07but when you understand how much impact little trees like this down residential streets

02:12weirdly have an impact on people's mental health, it really is substantial

02:16and when you consider that this specific bird box is out front of the mustard tree

02:20which has recently celebrated 30 years of combating poverty and homelessness in Manchester

02:25it does make more sense

02:26So at this point, lots of travelling, so my legs were getting weary

02:29but up to Angel Meadow which is over towards Noma

02:32and again, a lovely little spot to spend some time in the sun

02:35and then finally, we made our way to the Northern Quarter

02:38and thus ends our journey

02:40you won't see the exact location of the final one, you've got to do some work yourselves

02:43but here in the Northern Quarter, near the Northern Soul Grilled Cheese

02:47you will be able to track it down

02:48it's worth noting, there is a link to the full map on the Treehouse website
