‘Minecraft’ has stellar opening weekend

It more than doubled what industry experts predicted for its opening weekend.

00:07Minecraft, the adaptation of the 2011 game, smashed expectations as it grossed more than

00:11$162 million at domestic box offices in its opening weekend.

00:16The film had the strongest opening weekend of any movie thus far in 2025.

00:21Minecraft is following the path of other big-name video games.

00:23According to Comscore, in April 2023, the Super Mario Bros. movie opened at $146 million

00:29dollars.

00:30In October that same year, Five Nights at Freddy's debuted at $80 million dollars.

00:34And 2022's Sonic the Hedgehog 2 ranked in $72 million in its opening weekend.

00:39Minecraft's big opening weekend was welcomed news for the broader box office.

00:43Comscore revealed that before the movie's debut, earnings were down 13% across the entire

00:48industry.
