A couple of AI tea-picking robots were unveiled Thursday at the West Lake Longjing tea plantation in Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang province, to assist with tea harvest.

00:13According to Zhou Yuji, a member of the tea-picking robot research and development team, they
00:18successfully overcame the core, technological challenges of tea-picking last year.
00:25The most obvious thing is our mechanical arm.
00:27We changed our arm.
00:29We changed from the original X,Y,Z mechanical arm
00:34to a connected mechanical arm.
00:37Its weight has been reduced by 80%.
00:42The old one used to weigh 85 kg.
00:48Now it weighs 21 kg.
00:52We tried to imitate a human-like way of picking tea.
00:57We imitated a human hand.
01:03The mechanized picking efficiency is now equivalent to that of one to two human pickers.
01:09This year, the team is focusing on advancing the technology toward industrialization,
01:15emphasizing lightweight equipment, cost control,
01:19and various improvements to expedite the commercialization process.
