00:00A study by Mo Transport revealed that the city centre is the most dangerous area of
00:05Bristol based on crime rates. Let's find out how locals feel about the area.
00:10What are your thoughts on the city centre?
00:12Well I hope it's, I mean it feels pretty vibrant today with the music going on. I think it's
00:18very nice, nice sunny day. I don't come very often but it's got everything I need when
00:24I do get here.
00:27I think it's a pretty pleasant place to be. I love this city, I think we're very lucky,
00:31we're very fortunate. In terms of sort of people feeling unsafe I think there's probably
00:38a lot of profiling and like people sort of seeing people who are down on their luck and
00:45struggling and seeing that as something to be scared of as opposed to something to empathise
00:50with and help with. I think a lot of people that are perceived to be unsafe are just
00:56having a really hard time and I think it's really sad that a lot of them are treated
01:00with fear.
01:01For the most part I think it's great. This is the biggest city I've lived in and the
01:06most diverse and vibrant but like I said there have been a couple of incidents like my husband's
01:13bike got stolen out of our cycle store at our apartment which is like in the basement
01:19of our apartment complex so it's like a pretty secure area and that was just this past weekend
01:24and yeah somebody cut through the like U-lock bolt. Anyways, so that happened.
01:33To what extent do you feel safe around this area?
01:38I would say like I feel reasonably safe like just walking around but you know you just
01:45have to keep your head on a swivel I think and pay attention to what's going on.
01:49Well I only ever come in the day so I wouldn't know about any other time. I feel it's fine.
01:56Things are, you can see everywhere's getting a bit more run down, a bit rougher, people
02:00are finding it harder, times are really really hard for people and more and more people are
02:05out on the streets and I think that Bristol as a community has always been a great city
02:12for standing together and not standing apart and I hope that that's the attitude we take
02:17through all this.
