00:00I mean this is a really important cost of living measure, but it's also a simple measure
00:04that will go a long way towards helping kids get the best education that they can and making
00:09sure students, no matter their postcode, no matter their circumstances, feel welcome,
00:14feel pride, feel inclusion when they go to school.
00:18So we have updated the school uniform policy and this is a compulsory change we are making
00:23for our government schools and can I thank Keith the Principal here at Abbotsford Primary
00:27because they are an example of what we are wanting to do right across the state.
00:32So above the waist essentially you can continue to have the logo, but skirts, socks, shorts,
00:40no logo.
00:41We want to provide more choice for families and for parents, so we have worked right across
00:46the state, some 20 roundtables across regional Victoria, metropolitan Melbourne and people
00:53like Gayle McCarty from Parents Victoria have participated in those roundtables.
00:57The Victorian Council of Social Services state school relief that the Premier mentioned
01:01and we heard loud and clear that the cost of school uniforms was having a really big
01:06impact on household budgets.
