A big rebuild on the horizon?

00:00Do you feel the honeymoon period with David Moyes is over now? First league loss in ten

00:09games but they haven't actually won in five of those. A lot of draws in there. He's obviously

00:14made them a lot harder to beat and break down. How do you see the tactics going and shifting

00:20in these final few games?

00:23Yes, as you say, they haven't won in five games, I think it is. To be fair, the 2-2

00:30draw against Man United, they should have won that game. They'll be sick, they threw

00:33that one away. But drawing at Brentford, not a bad result in isolation. Wolves, performance

00:40wasn't quite there. It's West Ham as well at home. Performance wasn't quite there and

00:44they needed a late equaliser to get that one. So it's David Moyes' luck of things and I

00:51don't want to say it's gone stale because it's harsh on the players and David Moyes

00:54hasn't had an awful lot of players to work with. It'll help having the likes of Illumina

00:59and Dierbach. He's going to have to build fitness up and Dwight McNeil's getting there.

01:03But David Moyes may be looking to try and change a couple of things. Jake O'Brien's

01:08been excellent at right-back but does he look and think, well, maybe can we go a little

01:13bit more attacking? Do we give Nathan Paterson a go at either right-back or left-back? Do

01:18I maybe look at changing the formation because of playing with wing-backs? Now Armando Broge

01:23is back but Beto, as far as a scoring boost for you, hasn't netted in five games, I think.

01:29Does he look at Broge and think, well, maybe a little bit more of a focal point, someone

01:33who can bring others into play and can also carry a threat as well on the counter-attack?

01:39Do I look at him and does David Moyes start looking at the rest of the season? I think

01:44I need to get a feel for the players I really want to keep at this club next season because

01:49we've talked about how many players are out of contract and some players, the likes of

01:56say Nathan Paterson, who hasn't played a lot of football in his three years since he arrived

02:00because of injuries and being out of favour. Players like him, Armando Broge, he's looking

02:04and thinking, well, maybe if he does well in the last eight games we could get him back

02:09on loan again potentially. Just things like that really. I don't want to say experiments

02:14because I don't think David Moyes wants to do that but he'll definitely be planning for

02:20the next season. I think, as I say, I don't think he's gone stale, I haven't shown real

02:25resilience, resistance, but maybe they just need a couple of tweaks just to freshen things

02:31up again. It's hard when you get beat by a team like Liverpool, how much quality there

02:39is, but can they just rejuvenate a couple of things and bring that pep back into the

02:44step again like they had on Moyes in his first few games?

02:49Yes, obviously just in terms of next season, the rebuild, obviously the ownership and the

02:55new stadium changed, there's a lot to be changed across the summer for Everton. Do

03:01you feel there's a certain core of players that Everton need to keep in terms of these

03:07players who can rebuild for the future and Moyes has really impressed with them so far.

03:11Is there anyone that stands out? In part, it is quite an ageing squad, but there is

03:16also some real fresh and young talent in there as well.

03:21The one you want to keep is obviously Jad Branthwaite, whether Everton can keep hold

03:24of him, I'm not too sure, we discussed this when we recently reported about him not being

03:29in the England squad, but David Moyes said exactly what I said, Phil Jagielka and Leighton

03:35Baines on the squad, Jordan Lescott as well, so if you could build a team around Jad

03:40Branthwaite and him to be a real bedrock for your team, a bit like, to be honest, like

03:45Virgil van Dijk's Liverpool, that gives you an excellent base and obviously Jordan Pickford

03:50in goal is one of the best in the Premier League, but you're probably looking at players

03:54maybe like Willem van Dijk, who's been excellent in his first season. Everton have had to sell

04:01assets to the best players in recent seasons, if Everton could keep hold of Willem van Dijk

04:05for a few years, then where could they go? Looking around the squad, who else can be

04:11a mainstay? James Tarkowski is there, but he's in his 30s now, so just a guy you want

04:17to keep for another year, but he's not a long-term solution. James Garner, to be fair

04:22to him, has done well since he came in, can he kick on now? That's the challenge with

04:26James Garner, I think he's come up to three years, had his injury problems as well, he

04:31was really well-guised at Man Utd, can he come in and can he really start to kick on

04:37as well? And if you're going to keep Beto, can he have a consistent run of form like

04:43he did when Moyes came in? But I think there's going to be some big changes in the summer

04:49in terms of the out-of-contact players, and maybe a couple who have been on the periphery

04:54of things, and Moyes thinks he might be better off having a new challenge elsewhere, it might

04:59suit all parties. But what David Moyes should be saying to players is, where else are you

05:05going to go? Where's a better club than Everton to go to and play football? And a new stadium

05:12and a massive fan base, one of the most successful clubs in English history, where else is an

05:20upgrade on Everton? So you either stay here, work hard, prove to yourself, or maybe you

05:27could go elsewhere, you might play more football, but it might be as good of a club to play

05:33for, so definitely a lot of things for Moyes and his recruiting staff to consider heading

05:37into the future.
