00:00Meet Patricia Ligaya, the Pinay Wrestling Sweetheart.
00:07A sweet man in your eyes, who can knock you down in the wrestling ring.
00:14He cuts- Ooh!
00:15Oh, look at that.
00:17Almost right to the throat.
00:19Right, kicking things off.
00:21Hard after hard.
00:24Let's go!
00:31Yeah!
00:34He's the do-it-yourself superhero, Super P.
00:39His superpower is the power of friendship.
00:43Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's understandable.
00:46Hey!
00:47Hi, I'm Super P, I'm Joya.
00:51Ooh!
00:53The next person we'll meet is considered a pioneer female wrestler in the country.
00:59Let's welcome Krystal, the Queen of Philippine Wrestling.
01:16Krystal started liking wrestling when she was a kid.
01:20I think I was 3 or 4 years old.
01:22But I remember, I was with my grandmother and my uncle.
01:27We were watching WWF.
01:30My grandmother was a big fan of wrestling.
01:36Brett Howard was a huge fan because he was so handsome.
01:41Undertaker was so cool.
01:44At the time, when I was 4 years old, my grandmother had breast cancer.
01:48And she wasn't- There was no cure.
01:51We were doing everything to prolong her life.
01:56But you know, even though she was already so poor,
02:00but when she cheered,
02:03the joy she got from wrestling was different.
02:08It was like, go Brett Howard!
02:11And I was like,
02:14I watched wrestling even though I was already so poor.
02:18It was so hard for me.
02:21When I think about it,
02:25it's like wrestling can bring joy to people.
02:29Because of this, she didn't lose her desire to become a pro wrestler.
02:34Me and my college friends, we heard about this promotion.
02:38We all tried out.
02:40And that was in 2015.
02:42And now we're here, 10 years later.
02:45But when you started, you were the only female.
02:48It was hard.
02:50Because all of my trainees were male.
02:53So for me, I had to be with the girls.
02:56I had to be with them.
02:58The training before was really male-focused.
03:02Correct, correct.
03:04There was no consideration for the girls.
03:06Even if they were wearing suplexes,
03:09I also had to wear suplexes.
03:11If they were doing body slams, I also had to do body slams.
03:14So it was really hard for me.
03:15But didn't they get tired?
03:18Because of course, wrestling is very physical.
03:21Of course, you have to hold on to things.
03:24It was...
03:26I gave my permission.
03:29And they were very respectful.
03:31And you, weren't you afraid?
03:35Because before wrestling,
03:37I was really an athlete.
03:39So I swam for 6 years.
03:41I also did taekwondo for another 6-7 years.
03:45And I also did cheerleading.
03:47So really, I've...
03:49In cheerleading,
03:51I'm already used to being held.
03:53Because when they throw me,
03:55they catch me.
03:57As long as they catch me, it's okay even if they hold me.
03:59As long as I don't land on the floor.
04:02So you're used to being thrown.
04:05Right?
04:07You're used to being circled.
04:09And you're also used to getting hurt.
04:12Yes.
04:13Athletic background.
04:15Physically, not mentally.
04:22After intense trainings,
04:24she was challenged in the ring
04:26with a male wrestler.
04:29One team dominating, utterly.
04:31Astro.
04:33Another big boot.
04:35This is where Kristal's one-decade career began.
04:37Kristal.
04:41She also fought in other countries.
04:43In Asia, her nickname is Queen of Philippine Wrestling.
04:47When there's a wrestling event in another country,
04:50I always carry the pinast on my back.
04:53Because I want to show that
04:55the wrestlers here in the Philippines are good.
04:57So it's really pressuring because
04:59it's not just me as a person,
05:02but me as a Filipino.
05:05Me as an embodiment of Filipinos.
05:08So it's really pressuring.
05:10But when the achievements are good,
05:14when you see the support of Filipinos,
05:17even if you only see it in my comment section
05:21on social media,
05:23when you see the pinast,
05:25you'll see the support of Filipinos
05:27from America or other places.
05:30It warms my heart.
05:36Try again.
05:38Oh, nice!
05:40Kristal only earns a small amount of money from wrestling.
05:43He is...
05:45Queen's guillotine!
05:49Oh, no!
05:51They still don't consider it a full-time career.
05:55So whenever there's no training or wrestling match,
05:58they do different rackets.
06:01I have, like, four or five part-time jobs.
06:06Apart from wrestling,
06:09which is, I wish it was the main job that I can do.
06:12But sadly, we're not there yet.
06:15We'll get there.
06:17I do also hair and makeup on the side.
06:19I stream online,
06:22video games and such.
06:24I also have a corporate part-time on-call job.
06:28We give seminar workshops to companies in buildings.
06:32I also do commercial modeling sometimes.
