Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Tuesday that federal prosecutors have been directed to seek the death penalty against Luigi Mangione, according to CNBC. Mangione is charged with murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan last December. Bondi called the crime “a premeditated, cold-blooded assassination” and linked the decision to President Trump’s executive order restoring the federal death penalty. Mangione was apprehended in Pennsylvania and faces federal charges including murder, stalking, and firearms violations.
