UnitedHealthcare CEO Murder Suspect Handled Gun Expertly, Says Ex FBI Agent

The suspect who killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson handled his gun proficiently during Wednesday's shooting -- something that's painfully clear, according to a former FBI agent.

00:00He came there 10 days in advance to do site surveys and to evaluate the situation and

00:09I mean, that tells me that this is very, very well planned, well in advance.

00:14In addition, he does use a very interesting gun that he chooses with a silencer.

00:20The problem with that is they can cause jams, as we saw, but he already knew that.

00:25He was prepared.

00:26He immediately cleared.

00:28He cleared it instantly, and that really is a clue.

00:31This guy's really proficient with firearms.

00:33At least proficient, for sure, with that gun.

00:36It later jams so bad he can't clear it, and he expels three live cartridges.

00:42That's also very interesting to me.

00:44But listen, he did what he came there to do, and he got away.

00:50So that tells you the proficiency, but he wasn't a good marksman.

00:55He hit the guy in the leg.

00:56That shows me that he anticipated that shot when he hit the calf, and then he does the

01:01kilt shot, and then he misses another shot.

01:04So he's not the best hit man, but remember, we've seen other people have, like in the

01:10Bradigan case.

01:11They're not always the best, but he did a lot of things right.

01:14They're trying to track this guy.

01:16We know he went to the park, but we're on Friday.

01:18The murder happened Wednesday morning.

01:21What are the authorities doing?

01:22What is the FBI doing?

01:23How did they find this guy?

01:25Oh, my gosh.

01:26He left behind so many breadcrumbs.

01:29They're going to get him.

01:30The problem is, like in all cases, he had a big head start, and he did this right in

01:35terms of getting away.

01:36I believe he's possibly already out of New York City, and he's already fled, and they're

01:42looking for him in other jurisdictions right now.

01:44They'll catch him, but it's going to take a while.

01:47The one thing that I'm having trouble with, Jennifer, is that he was at that hostel on

01:52the Upper West Side for almost 10 days before the murder.

01:57It just seems to me that if somebody is that stealth, that they get in a Greyhound and

02:03pay cash and doing all of that, that you would think, do I really want to be in a hostel

02:08where all those people are around, because ultimately the cops are going to know I stayed

02:11there, and you're giving them 10 days to identify you, and I'm just really puzzled by that.

02:19It's an oxymoron.

02:20Why are you going to put yourself in a situation where you're around all of those people?

02:25And that's the piece that doesn't really fit.

02:28You would want enough funds to stay at a hotel that's very private, maybe a sleazy hotel,

02:35but you would want a hotel.

02:36Why are you at a hostel?

02:38That made no sense.

02:40It's really puzzling to me, and it's just so different from every move that he made,

02:46but you think ultimately they're going to catch him.

02:48I think they're going to catch him.

02:50I really do, and obviously he's going to be the key to all of this.

02:54It could be that he truly is a disgruntled, in other words, not him being disgruntled,

03:01but maybe he lost someone because they didn't have insurance.

03:05I mean, think about the timing, too.

03:07This is somebody that's willing to not be with their family during Thanksgiving.

03:11I found that very interesting, too.

03:13He's going to be totally detached, somebody that would grab Starbucks before murdering

03:18somebody.

03:19He's detached, and he was stealth, and he was ready to commit this crime at all costs.
