The Great Commute

The Canberra Times timed how long it would take by bike, bus and car to get from Canberra's south to the city.

00:00Hi, my name is Lucia Rundle, and today I'm doing the run from Monash to the city on public

00:16transport, and I'm going to be taking the R5 bus.

00:19Let's see how long it takes.

00:20Hi, so I've just made it to our city office.

00:44It took me over an hour to get from Monash all the way into Zurich.

00:50So that was my fault, I went the wrong way for a little bit to the bus stop, and I just

00:55missed a bus, so I had to wait another 15 minutes, but it was still a decent commute.

01:01I'm Carleen Minnie, I'm driving today from a colleague's home in Monash, we're all leaving

01:07from the same area.

01:08Google predicts that it will take 22 minutes, but I'm not sure if Google knows about the

01:14roadworks for the light rail in the city, we'll see how close Google is.

01:35So my commute in a car from Monash to the city took 33 minutes and 35 seconds.

01:42The first part of the commute was really good, the lanes were quite full, but we moved very

01:47well until we got close to the city where there is roadworks.

01:51Annoyingly, the last 700 meters took six and a half minutes, quite slow, when you think

01:58you're almost there, you're not quite.
