Here at St Andrews, the home of Birmingham City Football Club, the Ligue 1 leaders, where
00:07
today they have beaten Shrewsbury Town 4-1 in the Ligue 1 clash.
00:14
Another, running out of adjectives I'm supposed to describe, you know, the Shrewsbury season
00:19
at the moment, but it's been another difficult, difficult afternoon.
00:23
It was always going to be a difficult afternoon, you know, kind of regardless of who was in
00:27
charge and what had gone on, but with Gareth Ainsworth walking out on Shrewsbury Town on
00:32
Tuesday to join Gillingham, and then obviously the appointment of Michael Appleton, it's
00:37
been a whirlwind of a week.
00:39
No one could probably have predicted it, you know, seven days ago, but there's been so
00:43
much change, it made the task of taking on, you know, the division's best side, the Champions
00:49
Elect side that have spent an absolute fortune to assemble a squad who play very, very good
00:54
football.
00:55
They beat them in the first fixture earlier in the season on home turf.
01:00
Town are obviously the only side in the division, I believe, at the moment, before this weekend,
01:06
I haven't checked since, the two have beat Blues and Wrexham.
01:09
But today, Birmingham City got their revenge on Shrewsbury Town with a comfortable 4-1
01:16
victory, never really having to get out of second gear.
01:20
Michael Appleton made a few changes, three changes, bringing in George Nurse, Alex Gilead
01:27
and one other to his starting XI, you know, for his first game in charge, always really
01:34
interested to see that first XI picked, but unfortunately for Town, you know, it could
01:41
have been more than 1-0 at the break.
01:43
The goal, the first two goals are absolutely, you know, they're really, really poor goals
01:47
to concede again and they're not learning from their mistakes, they've conceded again
01:51
from a set play, two set plays, you know, well-worked corner routine for the second
01:55
one but the first one, and it's just really, really poor from a Shrewsbury perspective
01:59
that they just can't seem to be able to defend these corners and they just keep letting goals
02:03
in.
02:04
You know, the first one came from a free kick, the second from a well-worked corner and then
02:08
from that moment onwards, Shrewsbury are never going to get back in it, you know, there's
02:11
been a goal shortage of late, they've not managed to score many goals and, you know,
02:17
there was the chance from the away end, you know, as the game goes on, towards director
02:21
of football, Nicky Moore, towards Gareth Hainsworth, I believe, as well, towards, you know, Roland
02:26
Wichterle, the chairman, I mean, it's a bleak time, it's a difficult time to cover Shrewsbury
02:32
Town at the moment because there's very little positive going on.
02:36
Obviously, 4-0 it went to another two goals, Josh Feeney got the better of by Hansen on
02:43
the by-line, May taps in, May gets his second when he takes it around Blackman, a little
02:48
ray of positivity when Verdane-Oliver scores late on, going around with a header from a
02:53
Jordan Chilly cross, but it was kind of all irrelevant.
02:57
I think everybody knew that this was going to be an incredibly challenging game, there
03:03
was never any doubt over that because of what's happened in the week, but, you know, Shrewsbury
03:11
just continued to make the same mistakes over and over again, which is incredibly frustrating.
03:18
Running out of words to talk about the way that this season's gone for town, they're
03:22
in an incredibly tricky spot right now and we've just got to keep our fingers crossed
03:27
that there's some positive news on the horizon.
