Conversation with Dr Stuart Patrick from the Chamber of Commerce on his favourite spots in Glasgow.

00:00This year, as we mark Glasgow's 1850, we're asking everyone that we talk to to talk about

00:07their favourite places in the city. So I wanted to ask you about, you know, like when you're

00:11out in Glasgow with pals, what's your kind of ideal scenario?

00:16Well, yeah, and this is where I'm obviously going to display my kind of slightly West

00:21End-ish biases. My natural habitat, if I do go out for a meal or out for a drink,

00:29would usually be not far off Byers Road, so I'd probably be somewhere like the Ubictus

00:35Chip. I used to be involved with Brails, so I'll drop in there now and again.

00:41Actually, we're in one of the places that, if I'm, obviously I work in the city centre,

00:45so I'm quite regularly using city centre venues, so places like Cafe Gandolfi,

00:53Anchor Line, I'm in there an awful lot, one of Mario's places, I'm in there

00:57regularly to take possible investors for a meal in Glasgow, so there's a whole variety of places.

01:05Yosemite Deli, I'd love, I mean, it's on the list here, so you want to go there.

01:08It is.

01:08You definitely want to go there.

01:09What about restaurants and bars from any era that represent your kind of memories of Glasgow?

01:15Gosh, well, I was saying the very first place I ate when I was, I think I was 18,

01:21and decided that we're going to have a date up in Glasgow. I was born and brought up in Greenock,

01:26so coming up to Glasgow at that time was a bit of an adventure,

01:29and the very first restaurant I ate in is still there, and it was O Sole Mio,

01:34I think that, and I had calamari, I remember that was the very first time.

01:37Well remembered from date nights in the 80s and 90s, I believe, yeah.

01:41Yeah, still there. I'm glad to see it's hung on in there.

01:45We're blessed by lots of nice outdoor spaces in Glasgow.

01:50Where do you like to go for a wee walk and stuff like that?

01:52If I'm going for a walk with someone to have a natter, I'd probably end up

01:54on the Kelvin Way, into the Botanic Gardens,

01:59probably end up going down Byers Road and Ashton Lane,

02:02probably have a wee glass of wine somewhere in Ashton Lane.

02:04What about a favourite Glasgow building?

02:06Favourite Glasgow building? Well now, I mean, I don't get the time to do this that I used to do,

02:12but if I could get into the Glasgow Film Theatre, or the SITs, and I'm so delighted to see the SITs

02:18coming back. Those are a couple of places with very fond memories for me,

02:23so if I can get the time, those would be two buildings that I'd be really interested in.

02:29What about your favourite Glasgow music?

02:33I'm not a particular music person, so you're probably not going to get very far with that.

02:37I'll tell you what, what we're going to do straight after this, is we're going up to the

02:40West End for a pint of tent. I'm going to take you to a record store, we're going to buy you some

02:45Blue Nile albums, right? Ah, right, okay.

02:47And that'll be us sorted. Okay, tasty place, when does this all kick off?

02:52It kicks off in April, will be the formal launch.
