The New South Wales government has introduced legislation in the parliament which would ban future public-private hospital partnerships at acute hospitals. The law known as Joe's law - honours the memory of two-year-old Joe Massa, who died last September while being treated at the northern beaches hospital in Sydney. An internal investigation found serious failures in the hospital's management, including incorrectly triaging joe as a 'less serious' patient. The hospital also ignored desperate requests from his parents to give him IV fluids.
