A dangerous driver reached speeds exceeding 130 mph in a stolen car during a police chase
00:05
on the A19.
00:07
Liam Ainslie of Wingate was spotted driving the stolen Citroen near Castle Eden at around
00:12
8pm on July 3rd last year.
00:15
The vehicle was displaying false number plates and failed to stop when traffic officers illuminated
00:19
their blue light.
00:20
In his attempt to escape, Ainslie reached speeds of more than 130 mph before losing
00:26
control when he made a sudden right turn.
00:29
Crossing onto the opposite carriageway and mounting the grass verge at high speed, the
00:33
vehicle narrowly avoided two oncoming vehicles.
00:37
Appearing at Durham Crown Court last week, the 35-year-old was found guilty of aggravated
00:41
vehicle taking, dangerous driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.
00:48
He was given a 12-month prison sentence.
00:50
Here's footage from the police chase.
01:00
It should be a DS4 and it's actually a stolen Citroen C4.
01:05
It was stolen from Liam on the 19th June by unknown means.
01:29
High risk, high risk, crash, crash, crash.
01:42
High risk, high risk. Crash, crash, crash. High risk, high risk. Crash, crash, crash.
02:02
I've got one detained. Driver's made off into the field. He's wearing a cap, I think like
02:12
sort of bright orange gloves.
02:16
I've got an eyeball on the drone, can we have local units to Hutton Henry please, the back
02:20
road between Hutton Henry and station.
02:22
Yes, yes, we'll pass the message.
02:32
White male, black shirt, black t-shirt, black bottoms, in the field heading towards station
02:42
sound on the Hutton Henry back road.
02:44
Yeah, roger sir, just turning the E19 vehicle to men.
02:48
Yeah, he's giving up, he's just currently in the middle of the field just waiting for
03:04
us.
03:05
Yeah, he's giving up, male's giving up.
03:08
He's in the field aye, he's in the field. Drone's got eye on, he's in the field somewhere.
03:14
White male is in his early thirties, thin build, black cap, black and blue t-shirt.
03:20
He has given up as soon as we were in the air, he's holding his hands up as if to give up.
03:31
Male is making his way back to us.
03:33
Roger.
03:34
Black and blue t-shirt.
03:36
Yep, we've got eyes on.
03:41
Alright, drum roll pal.
03:43
Just spin round, hands behind your back for us.
03:52
Other hand there pal.
03:55
Right mate, this won't be the time when you rest on suspicion of dangerous driving and
03:58
fail to stop for police.
03:59
I've just seen it, but it may harm your defence.
04:01
I've just seen it, but it may harm your defence.
04:04
So you've been driving this game?
04:09
Is that a dog in the back there?
04:10
Aye mate, it's a dog.
04:11
Dad, I wolfed for him.
04:12
You made the right call.
04:14
Other than what's happened before that.
04:17
That looks him there.
04:18
Alright.
04:20
Unfortunately for you, he had a drone in the back of the car.
04:22
Could you hear it like?
04:23
Yeah, I heard the buzzer and thought like, no, he might be pointing somewhere.
04:26
Nah, not now, there's no one that up.
04:28
I'm not one of the land sharks here as well.
04:31
I'm glad.
04:32
Yeah.
04:33
I know we're getting to this place.
04:34
Have you got how on you they should now?
04:35
No, no.
