The life of Jon Ossoff

He's the youngest Democrat in the Senate since Joe Biden – and Georgia's first Jewish Senator.   This is the story of Jon Ossoff.

00:00The days of exclusion are coming to an end.

00:04Four years of hatred and racism and bigotry and fear are coming to an end.

00:11And now George is going to send a message that echoes from coast to coast about what we stand for.

00:30My mother came to this country as an immigrant when she was 23 years old

00:59because she believed in America.

01:01You remind me of another time in my own life when I was 17 years old growing up in rural Alabama.

01:30I wrote a letter to Dr. King and he wrote me back and sent me a roundtrip Greyhound bus ticket

01:36and invited me to come to Montgomery to meet him.

01:39And it changed my life.

02:00I run a business that exposes political corruption and organized crime

02:15and I'm not an elected office holder.

02:17And I think that this is not a time for convention.

02:19This is a time for a new kind of politics.

02:22And when corruption is destroying our political system,

02:25someone with a track record in their career exposing corruption, investigating corruption,

02:30is exactly what we need right now.

02:55Knocking on doors, making phone calls, getting folks to the polls can make the difference.

03:06A few moments ago, my friends, I called Secretary Handel.

03:17I commended her on a hard-fought race and on her victory this evening.

03:23And we showed the world that in places where no one thought it was even possible to fight, we could fight.

03:40My husband John Ossoff is dedicated to making sure that every Georgian has access to health care.

03:54If the federal minimum wage kept up with the cost of living, it would be even higher than $15.

04:05The basic premise is that anybody in this country working a single full-time job

04:11should be bringing home enough money to sustain themselves, and then some.

04:15We've come too far, we've made too much progress, and we're not going back.

04:45While David Perdue was getting classified briefings on COVID-19,

05:05while David Perdue was buying up shares in manufacturers of vaccines and medical equipment to profit from a pandemic,

05:14he was telling the rest of us this virus is no deadlier than the flu. Y'all remember that?

05:31This campaign has been about health and jobs and justice for the people of this state, for all the people of this state.

05:38And they will be my guiding principles as I serve this state.
