Screenings of the movie version of George Orwell's "1984" were organized to protest  Donald J. Trump's administration: we asked viewers in NYC if the film resonated with reality.

00:00It could become reality, but it's fiction.

00:17We are able to criticize our government.

00:24We're living in part of a reality of 1984 right now.

00:29There's a lot more reality to it than anything.

00:31I think it's a little far-fetched.

00:37When Winston is rewriting history, he's rewriting news story.

00:40This idea of fake news is coming around now.

00:43The new term that's been coined, the alternative fact.

00:46How many fingers am I holding up, Winston?

00:48Four.

00:50And if the party says there are not four, but five.

00:53That was the movie.

00:56People are all aware of that right now.

00:58Whatever you read might not be the truth.

01:00When our current president was campaigning,

01:03the crowd would get riled up and they'll start saying,

01:05lock her up anytime you mention Hillary Clinton.

01:10That scene reminded me of that.

01:12The two minutes of hate.

01:19There's too much resistance and there's too much equality here and democracy.

01:24And I don't see that happening anytime soon.

01:26Things could become much more severe and we could lose control.

01:32When George Orwell wrote the book, it was to tell us to be careful,

01:36beware, be mindful of what could happen.
