I think social justice is a really important part, a major part of the Christian tradition.
00:20
And so, more than anything, we want to tell the LGBTQ community, especially young people,
00:26
that you will be safe here, that you will be loved here.
00:28
And so, after the controversy with Alabama Public Television choosing not to air the
00:33
Arthur episode that had a gay wedding in it, Sidewalk approached us about hosting a screening.
00:40
And this was in line with our mission of a church, both in terms of offering hospitality,
00:44
but also, we believe very strongly in justice for all, including the LGBTQ community.
00:58
You know, one of the reasons we're excited to show this Arthur viewing is because I have
01:15
a six-year-old and a one-year-old.
01:17
I want them to see two people of the same gender getting married as if it's a normal
01:22
thing because I want it to be normal for them.
01:25
And I think there's more and more opportunities for young people to experience that.
01:56
So, I think specifically for the LGBTQ community, I think that community in particular has been
02:01
harmed by the church, by religious communities.
02:03
You know, to be perfectly honest, there was a time in my life when I would have maybe
02:08
not publicly condemned an event like this, but wouldn't have agreed with it.
02:11
And what led to my transformation was relationships with LGBTQ people, getting to know them, seeing
02:16
the love that they had for their partners, their spouses.
02:19
They wanted the same thing that I want.
02:21
They wanted to be a part of a loving family.
02:22
They wanted to be a part of a safe community.
02:25
They wanted to be a part of a safe community.
