00:00There's nothing better than a baby that's sitting on your chest, right?

00:04Oh, it's me heart.

00:07♪♪

00:16I heard that they were just offering employees to be cobblers,

00:20and I thought, what is better than a baby,

00:23you know, on your chest and hanging out?

00:26♪♪

00:34There are many studies that show that human contact for babies,

00:37holding with babies, helps with that brain growth

00:39and helps with their overall development,

00:42specifically their ability to maintain all of their vitals

00:47so that they can learn to feed and grow.

00:50I have a little baby in the next pod over,

00:54and she's been growing and getting little chubbier cheeks,

00:58and so that's really fun to see how that they improve and grow.

01:11A lot of parents are unable to be here due to work

01:14or other children at home,

01:16or maybe they live far away and can't get here very often,

01:20so it's great to have that human contact.

01:23♪♪

01:33They go through a developmental training,

01:35learning how to hold a baby appropriately,

01:37what to do if baby starts to fuss

01:39or have desaturations of oxygen,

01:43and learning what to do when baby is showing us signs

01:47that they're stressed out.

01:48There's an animal configuration for each baby,

01:52and each one tells us what the baby can handle.

01:56But we also watch the monitors.

01:58Each monitor has their heart rate

02:01and how often, how many breaths they take per minute,

02:06and then their oxygen rate.

02:08♪♪

02:14I for sure get more out of this than the babies do.

02:19This is just so helpful for just mind and body, you know?

02:24It's two hours of you forget

02:26what's stressing you out in your life, right?

02:29It's so rewarding, so rewarding.

02:32Literally every baby that we send home

02:36has a better life or even a chance at a life

02:38that they would not have had at all

02:40had they not been in our NICU,

02:42and that is so fulfilling for our staff to know

02:44that we really are helping with miracles every day.

02:48If I couldn't be here, I would probably be a mess, so...

02:53And just to know somebody could be here for him.
