00:00I didn't care what I had to do, I planned everything around going to school before I had the money to even go.
00:08That's where I was at.
00:30I was at work one night and I got a ding on my PayPal and I saw this huge amount and I thought I was being scammed.
00:43So I went to check my email and lo and behold, there was a message from her wishing me the best and telling me that she had been watching me go for my dreams.
00:53It kind of validated me even more that I was going in the right direction.
01:00I really wasn't finding anything that really resonated with me.
01:20And I also was having a hard time, you know, after the recession and stuff, finding a job and stuff like that, even with that degree.
01:27And I ended up moving back home for about a year and a half.
01:50I worked full time at night, I went to school full time at day and I still had my business to run.
01:55And even then, I think my brand suffered a little bit during those months too because I couldn't completely devote all my time towards it.
02:02So I kind of just maintained during those months until I could get my hours back.
02:09I just sucked it up and drank a lot of coffee.
02:25I feel like we put so much money into the skincare industry, the beauty industry as a whole, whether hair, makeup or whatever else.
02:35But the love isn't shown back to us in that regard.
02:40Whenever I make products, whatever it is that I'm doing, branding wise, it's always for black women first.
02:55I'm big on trying to get people, especially in the Caribbean, onto sunscreen because I know we all grew up feeling like we didn't need it, that, you know, we're black.
03:24You know, we have melanin, so we don't need that.
03:26That's not true, even though, you know, our black might crack a little later down the road.
03:51I think she's continuing to look from afar, and I appreciate that.
03:54But one of my dreams still is to eventually one day be able to give her a facial.
03:59Like, I feel like I'd be able to come full circle if I can do that for her.
