00:17and it's been on the news everywhere around the world.

00:22One thing that could be said is that it's the first time since the Gezi protests

00:28which took place in 2013, that we see such mass protestation going on around the country.

00:36The mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu, of course, as you know,

00:41was arrested on corruption charges and pending the result of the court hearings,

00:48he will be taken off duty from the position.

00:52Now, when you look at what the opposition is saying, the CHP,

00:57the main opposition party to which Ekrem İmamoğlu belongs,

01:01they're saying that this is a politically motivated development

01:05because they see, and most of the commentators around the world seem to see the same thing,

01:12that President Erdogan is getting rid of his political rivals,

01:17in a sense, taking them off the political agenda,

01:21where they can no longer be a rival to him in the next general election.
