KAI got pregnant with her first child at the age of 18. She and her now wife, Dee, were both living in shelters when they decided to have a child and conceive via sperm donor. Kai said: “I would never promote it. It was just my situation at the time and I was young. I love kids, and I just decided to have kids on my own. Everybody's circumstances are different, but the choice is yours, it’s your life.” The couple’s daughter, Kaidee, is now five years old and they also have a second daughter, Faith, who is three. Both their children are aware of how they were conceived and refer to their donor siblings as ‘diblings’. The family share their life on social media and have been met with a lot of positivity as well as judgement. As well as comments about being homeless when they had Kaidee, they have received negativity about being a two mom family. Kai and Dee hope the future holds a lot of success and happiness as well as more children. Kai said: “We are in the process of trying to conceive for not one, but two more and hopefully conceive at the same time and be pregnant together.” They hope sharing their story clarifies and corrects some misconceptions. Kai said: “We hope that people learn that, for one, we are not an 18-year-old homeless couple. We are now adults that have lived and learned." 00:34Hi, my name is Kai and I'm a 24-year-old stay-at-home mom.

00:37And my name is Dee and I'm 26.

00:40We have two kids and Katie is five and Faith is three.

00:45When and why did you decide to homeschool the girls?

00:47We decided to homeschool the girls when we realized

00:50that would be the best choice for them as far as learning academically.

00:54They've experienced a slight bit of formal education.

00:57It only occurred for about two weeks.

01:02Yes, it was about two weeks.

01:04So do you guys plan to always homeschool them?

01:07Yes.

01:08How would you describe each of your children?

01:10In my eyes, they are perfect.

01:12And they are the most smarter kids in the world.

01:14How did you two meet?

01:15We met in high school.

01:17We were best friends at one point and things happen.

01:22Yeah.

01:23Yeah.

01:23We have been married for five years now.

01:26How do you guys make time for each other?

01:28I would say it's pretty hard to make time for each other.

01:31The most we make out of each other is date nights in the room.

01:50How did you decide to conceive?

01:52We decided to conceive by finding a donor.

01:57That was free.

01:58We ended up finding him through Google search.

02:01I just put free sperm donor.

02:04When I got pregnant, I was 18 years old.

02:05I was in shock because I didn't think it would work the first time

02:09by inserting a diva cup in me and it would just get pregnant.

02:12I never knew that was possible.

02:15How did each of your families react to the news?

02:21They weren't very pleased when they found out

02:25that I was pregnant at a young age.

02:27They just wished that I kind of waited a little longer

02:31before trying considering the situation I was in.

02:34Can you tell us a little bit about your experience being homeless?

02:36When I was homeless, it's not like I was on the street.

02:39It was just like I was in a homeless shelter.

02:42It was kind of hard because me and her were separated at first.

02:45So it was just me in a pregnancy shelter

02:47and it was my first experience being pregnant.

02:50I was alone.

02:51I knew I was going to get out of that situation.

02:53When Katie was born, I was still homeless.

02:55I was in the shelter by myself.

02:58And then a few months later, my wife came along with me.

03:02We stayed there for a few months until we got our apartment.

03:05Our circumstances has changed drastically from then

03:08because, of course, we're not homeless anymore.

03:11And we've done a lot.

03:13We do content, we're in school, we have jobs.

03:16I feel like you learn from your mistake.

03:20It made us grow in different ways and stronger.

03:23Do you know who this is?

03:25So you know who your donor is, right?

03:28And you know the siblings you meet, right?

03:31What does the term siblings mean?

03:33Siblings means donor siblings.

03:35Have you guys met many of your daughter's donor siblings?

03:40I would say in total, we might know 80 to 100.

03:47basically normalizing our life as a two-mom family.

03:50Some people were basically saying that homeless couples

03:53should not have kids, especially being 18.

03:56I do feel as though when you explain your story

03:59versus when somebody else explains your story,

04:01there's a different outcome.

04:02I feel like no matter what, you always get a hit or out there.

04:06There will always be somebody, that one person.

04:10Y'all look nothing alike.

04:36Just saying that those are not our children.

04:42I just would look at each other,

04:44not just push, I should just keep going.

04:46Because at this point, I'm tired of people asking questions like that.

04:50They definitely said, you're the nanny.

04:52We would like to have more children.

04:55We are in the process of trying to conceive for not one, but two more.

05:01And hopefully conceive at the same time and be pregnant together.

05:05How are the kids?

05:06Where's Katie and Faith?

05:08The kids are doing great.

05:09They're in the room playing right now with Play-Doh.

05:13I don't hear them, which is kind of...

05:16Yeah.

05:17Vanessa, were you concerned when Kai got pregnant with her first child?

05:22Absolutely.

05:24I wouldn't say that I was happy with the method.

05:27I don't think she fully understood that concept at that age.

05:31So I was more fearful.

05:34I did feel nervous about telling my family.

05:36But at the same time, I was happy with my own decision.

05:39So I kind of wanted to just feel like I was an adult by doing things growing up fast.

05:46I agree.

05:47No, yes.

05:48It doesn't even matter whatever anybody says.

05:50I was still going to do it.

05:51Definitely.

05:52We just want to have the last two and just be done.

05:55Yeah.

05:57You know that we told you that we were both trying.

06:00You said you wanted to have two at the same time.

06:02Yeah, yeah.

06:03What do you think of us having two more children?

06:06Just surprised, you know, at this time.

06:09To be completely honest, I think you guys should wait a little bit and be more settled.

06:14Ultimately, I know it's up to you and you're going to decide what's best for you.

06:18But that's like one of my regrets is that as I had children at a young age,

06:22there were activities that I wanted to do with you guys that I couldn't

06:28because I couldn't afford or I didn't have the help or the resources.

06:32Like, I know you're thinking everything's going to be perfect,

06:34but that's not how it always winds up.

06:35Wait a minute.

06:37There's nothing perfect.

06:38But that's all I ask is that if you're planning on more,

06:41is that you take their nurture and their well-being,

06:46mentally, emotionally in consideration because they're already here.

06:50Right.

06:50I've seen Aya develop as a parent very responsibly and I was actually, I am surprised.

06:58I would describe Kai and Dee as good parents.

07:02Honestly, the only thing I'm not too crazy about is they kind of move around a lot.

07:05Other than that, I think they are doing an amazing job.

07:09They feed the kids healthy.

07:10They're like well-kept and I really like and appreciate that as a grandmom.
