00:27People are usually pretty surprised when they find out what I do, when they ask me what's

00:31my job, and I tell them I'm a dairy cow hoof trimmer.

00:35Most people never heard of such a thing.

00:38Come on girls, let's go.

00:45So our day generally starts off with setting up our equipment.

00:48I have a Appleton steel hoof trimming chute, and then we usually sharpen our knives, change

00:53our blades, get everything prepared.

01:07It's very important that the cow hooves are trimmed on a maintenance schedule to keep

01:11the cows as comfortable as possible.

01:13This helps keep them at optimal milk production, it helps with reproduction, as well as longevity

01:20and profitability for the farmer.

01:23Without it, the cows would be at risk of becoming lame with an abscess or an ulcer or hemorrhaging

01:31or bruising.

01:32It can be very costly for a farmer to not maintain the cows and wait until they have

01:37problems to try to fix it.

01:52I started my YouTube channel about two years ago, and I wanted to help familiarize or educate

01:59the general public in some of the behind the scenes of the dairy cow industry, as well

02:04as be able to show people what I do as a dairy cow hoof trimmer.
