00:00Pope Francis returned home to the Vatican after he was hospitalised for five weeks with

00:07a life-threatening bout of pneumonia. Hundreds of people gathered outside the hospital he

00:13was staying in to greet him. Doctors who announced his release said he needed two months of rest

00:19during which he should refrain from meeting with big groups of people or exerting himself.

00:24I was so, so happy. It's been a long wait. We've been praying when I had, right from

00:30the point I had that he was sick, we started praying. I came here the very first day when

00:34he was hospitalised. I dedicated my prayer and I was so happy when I heard that he had

00:39come up to give us a blessing. So I'm so happy, I'm so excited.

00:44But they said that eventually he should be able to resume his normal activities.

00:50The 88-year-old head of the Catholic Church suffered two crises while hospitalised. By

00:55the beginning of the fourth week, doctors said he was no longer in critical condition.

01:00It was good and hopeful because we came the first time. You know when the news had first

01:06come out, people thought it was the end, but this has really brought joy to my heart to

01:12see the Pope go through all this. He's a really good fighter.

01:17Pope Francis' release brought tangible relief to believers across the world who had been

01:23anxiously following 38 days of medical ups and downs and wondering whether the Panther

01:29would make it.
