00:16Although Eastern Visayas is not included in the price cap set by the Department of Agriculture,

00:21pork prices in wet markets in the region still remain within the maximum suggested retail

00:26price.

00:27In the regular monitoring by the Agriculture Department in the region, pork has yet to

00:31exceed P380 per kilo even as it faces challenges from the declining number of hog raisers due

00:38to fears of the African swine fever and the high cost of feeds.

00:43In the list by the Bureau of Animal Industry, Leyte and southern Leyte provinces still remain

00:48among the areas with active ASF cases.

00:51Swine supply in Eastern Visayas currently come from Mindanao.

00:55Jinky Galan, one of the pork meat vendors at the Tacloban Public Market, shares the

00:59problem on ASF has heavily affected swine supply in the area.

01:04However, they are maintaining prices to sustain customer needs.

01:26In the latest statistics released by the Philippine Statistics Authority for February 2025, a higher

01:33inflation rate for the meat and other parts of slaughtered animals was observed at 3.9%

01:39compared with the 1.1% in January.
