Nagpur violence: FIR reveals shocking details of violence against police personnel

00:17When rumors were spread, false rumors saying that, let me read that FIR and I want you

00:27I want you to read this with me so that you know.

00:30What is it that the riotous mob was shouting?

00:34We will not spare them nor any Hindu.

00:40Despite police warnings and now I'm reading through that FIR.

00:44Despite police warnings, the mob armed itself with dangerous weapons including axes, stones,

00:49sticks and other lethal objects and terrorized the area.

00:54They deliberately tried to create communal tension and disrupt social harmony.

00:58The mob attacked the police with lethal weapons, throwing stones and even petrol bombs at them

01:04with the intention to kill officers on duty.

01:10Police officers were verbally abused with communal slurs.

01:16You are Hindu police officers.

01:18You helped in burning our religious cloth.

01:22That's not all.

01:23When you read that FIR, it then goes on to say, it talks about sexual violence against

01:32lady police personnel who were deployed there.

01:35They were assaulted.

01:37In one instance, the FIR says the mob touched her inappropriately, attempted to strip her

01:45uniform.

01:46Here's a policewoman in uniform.

01:48The mob attempted to strip her uniform and hurled obscene comments.

01:55Other female officers were also subjected to sexual harassment, obscene gestures and

02:01verbal abuse.

02:03This is just one part of the FIR.

02:06And over the course of the next half hour, I'll get you many more details, a detail that

02:10should be an eye opener for those who try to justify riots based on rumors.

02:16I want to bring in Sumi Keval Patel, who joins us from Nagpur, Maharashtra, India, today's

02:23They've been able to piece together what happened and not on the basis of what sources are saying,

02:30but from the first information report filed in the police station.

02:37Who is this mastermind who has been arrested?

02:41What more do we know of this shocking, absolutely shocking, molestation of a female police personnel

02:48deployed there?

02:55Yes, absolutely.

02:57This is the most shocking detail now that is coming to the fore.

03:00That was mentioned in the 18-page FIR that has been filed by the Maharashtra police.

03:04And in fact, I would like to circle back to this particular point.

03:08The key conspirator here is Fahim Shamim Khan.

03:11He is understood to be the key conspirator.

03:14He's already behind bars.

03:15And in fact, he's being interrogated by the officials of Maharashtra police.

03:18And in fact, he played a key role in spreading the misinformation like fire in the sensitive

03:24areas.

03:25And he actually was responsible for the assemblage that happened at Ganeshpet, at Ganpatipet

03:30police station, right outside of 50 to 60 men, after which this entire violence took

03:36place in Nagpur.

03:38And in fact, right now, what we also know so far is that women constables, the women

03:42officials who were part of the quick reaction team, as well as the SRPF, along with Maharashtra

03:46police who were deployed in huge numbers to contain the situation, they were also stripped.

03:51They were manhandled and communal slurs were also hurled at them.

03:54But right now, what Maharashtra police is also doing is looking into this angle very

03:58meticulously and they are scourging through various CCTV footages that are available with

04:05them.

04:06And right now they are trying to identify the writers who specifically hurt all these

04:11women officials dignity because now it's time for stern action against these writers, against

04:16the conspirators, because it is going to be a very serious angle to the case because Maharashtra

04:21police is very clear about this very point, that stern action will be taken against those

04:25writers who tried hurting women officials who were officially on duty.

04:30In fact, there were, there were a few writers who tried to strip a women official as well.

04:34And now it is very, very serious what has taken place in the Nagpur violence.

04:38And remember, Nagpur is a place where there always has been a communal harmony, but this

04:43time around, Fahim Shamim Khan, who already has previous cases of inciting violence in

04:50Nagpur, communal violence in Nagpur is again responsible and one of the key conspirator.

04:55And interestingly, he is a politician.

04:56He in fact is part of the minority democratic party.

04:59And in fact, he also contested the 2024 parliamentary election.

05:03He was one of the 24 candidates who had contested the parliamentary elections of 2024 against

05:07Nitin Gadkari, the BJP stalwart.

05:10And it is interesting now, his entire interrogation will take place and the investigation will

05:14be led in a new direction.

05:16No, because we must, we must get to the bottom of this and Sumi keep tracking that story

05:24I want our viewers to know what was happening according to the police who were on ground

05:30on the 17th of March.

05:32So the FIR that India today has been able to access, it reveals how the mob, it specifically

05:39went after women personnel who were deployed there, women police personnel who were deployed

05:45there.

05:46A Congress leader, we are told, tried to justify this assault saying police misused their uniform.

05:54The FIR in the Nagpur violence reveals how rioters, they targeted women police personnel

06:00during this violence.

06:02In one instance, they stripped a woman, they tried to strip a woman police constable.

06:08Women officers who were on the spot, repeated obscene gestures were made.

06:15They were subjected to obscene gestures and obscene comments.

06:20Rioters hurled communal slurs at the police, accusing the police of being Hindu.

06:26They made these slurs at those who were there to protect the people who were there saying

06:33they were shouting anti-Hindu slogans.

06:36The FIR then says the rioters tried to kill police.

06:42This is what the FIR says and the FIR has been filed by a police sub-inspector on duty

06:48and not one but two who were on ground.

06:51So rioters, they tried to kill police personnel on duty, molest them, strip them and kill

06:58them.

06:59Congress MP Imran Masood when asked on the molestation of the women police by the rioters

07:06actually sought to justify it.

07:08He said those cops were targeted or verged to that effect because I want you to listen

07:13to him who misused their uniform.
