00:00The game will focus on the central part of Japan, the Kansai, for those who know a little

00:08bit more, which will cover the city of Kyoto, the city of Osaka, and then the northern and

00:13southern coastlines of Japan.

00:15We wanted to have a much more realistic proportion to our world, so mountains feeling like mountains,

00:20forests feeling a little bit bigger.

00:22So the Portuguese got here a few years before our time period, and they're expanding.

00:26We're in a very important place of history in Japan because Japan is weakened by clan wars.

00:31The unification of Japan through Oda Nobunaga is also something to prevent Japan falling

00:36into the hands of foreign interests.

00:38So Oda Nobunaga, he's known as the first unifier.

00:41Ultimately, he says that he wants peace for Japan.

00:44On the other side, Wu is facing him, or Wu is suffering that peace, I would say.

00:49The aftermath of the war will have our main character, Naoe, try to convince herself that

00:54she's not on a vengeance path against Oda, and she made a promise to her father that

00:58she wants to fulfill.

00:59So the promise will take her across the world, and she will see that they're not the only

01:04one that suffered from war, and that Oda's not the only one that gained from war.

01:07You survived the fall of Iga.

01:11Not many of our neighbors did.

01:13The assassins have been in Japan for a little bit of a longer time, and we'll discover why,

01:19and we'll discover how, you know, and we'll discover how it's tied to Naoe as she goes

01:23through her adventure.

01:24Obviously, if you say that the assassins were in Japan, the Templars were probably in Japan

01:27as well, and we will see how they emerge from that.

01:32So Yasuke is a very interesting character.

01:34He comes in as Wudejizu, and then he will be offered an opportunity to join Oda Nobunaga.

01:41As he ventures into the world, Yasuke is always confronted to different situations, and he

01:45tries to analyze them from, you know, what's the just thing to do.

01:49Yasuke comes from the outside, so he knows about Japan a little bit, but he doesn't know

01:52everything about Japan.

01:53As an example, Yasuke will always be polite with nobles, you know, always do the right

01:58steps in presentation and all that, and Naoe will just jump in, half-bow to stuff, and

02:03just she could insult somebody that she shouldn't be insulting.

02:06He's tired of teaching children with no other virtue than their name.

02:11Yes, she's a young, naive person, but she's very brash and very confident.

02:14But later in the game, when she starts to meet important people who, in the social hierarchy,

02:20would be way above her, she needs to treat them with deference and respect.

02:24But is she doing it authentically, or is she doing it to get what she wants?

02:28And that subtlety is something I think we really try to focus on.

02:31We want the audience to understand when Naoe is faking it, and when she's being, like,

02:35really authentically deferent to someone.

02:37It's all very focused on their eye performance, as well as their facial performance.

02:42And in doing so, we've really kind of changed the way a lot of these cutscenes feel.

02:45And when these characters talk, you want to listen, because you need to pay attention

02:49on what exactly they're looking at, right?

02:52Our style is very much inspired by traditional Japanese films, in terms of their storytelling,

02:57but the film techniques are a little bit more modern.

03:00Originally, we went looking, we found the Samurai Trilogy by Hiroshi Inagaki, which

03:04is from the 50s.

03:05The camera was very motivated, it was constantly moving, and they used, like, whip pans and

03:11crash zooms, like, techniques that nowadays are considered, like, a little passé, but

03:15are very modern techniques.

03:16So I think I was very interested in seeing how we could use that in our game.

03:22As the story will unfold, there are a few surprises that we want to really keep for

03:27our fans that are very important.

03:29One of them that I'll just hint towards is that Yasuke's story is not necessarily what

03:34it seems to be at the start.

03:36So there are different things that will come with Yasuke's story.

03:39And Naoe's story, it will be a discovery for her of what her family was, who were really

03:46her parents.

03:47So that's something that will be very important to the heart of the game.

03:53Lighter.

03:54That happens when you empty your head of the past.

03:58You see the world for what it is now.
