Heavy rainfall easing for north-east Queensland as flooding continues

Wet weather expected to continue in Queensland.

00:00Hello from the Bureau with an update on the heavy rainfall that has now eased across northeastern

00:04parts of Queensland, with flooding impacts continuing as a large amount of water makes

00:10its way downstream. Now overnight last night into this morning there was very heavy rainfall

00:15around the Townsville area that saw 24-hour rainfall totals between 250 to 300 millimetres.

00:22But taking a look at the recent radar imagery we can see that the heavier rain

00:26has now moved down towards the southeast and eased, and the severe weather warning

00:32for the heavy rainfall and flash flooding has been cancelled. There is, as I mentioned,

00:37large amounts of water however in the catchments making their way downstream with flood watches

00:41in place extending all the way from just south of Atherton down towards Mackay. And we have just

00:47issued a major flood warning for the Bowley River which is just to the west of Townsville

00:52due to that heavy rainfall overnight and this morning. Now taking a look at the wind and the

00:58rain data it's just really highlighting that we are now in that easing trend with regards to

01:04rainfall about the east coast. Now it will continue to be quite wet over the next few days and into

01:09the weekend in an onshore flow with the showers, but we're not expecting them to be anywhere near

01:14as heavy or as widespread. Also though worth noting is that tropical moisture still pushing

01:20down into the gulf country and extending into the central and western interior with those hit and

01:26miss showers and storms continuing and becoming more frequent as we move towards the gulf coast.

01:33So as I mentioned we're in an easing trend now with the rainfall, however flooding impacts are
