00:00Former Polish President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Lech Wałęsa addressed the situation

00:05in Ukraine and spoke of the Ukrainian people's struggle to end the war in an interview with

00:09Euronews. He expressed concern over the conditions under which Ukraine is being pressured into

00:14reaching a ceasefire.

00:15I am afraid that they will force Ukraine to make a bad compromise. But again, logically

00:24looking at it, it will be a loss of 6 to 10 years, according to my calculations. And then

00:30it will all be over.

00:32If we don't defend democracy, demagogues and populists will set the world on fire,

00:36stressed Wałęsa, referring to the threats facing Europe and the world.

00:40What Ukraine is doing is a result of the development of our civilization. What Russia and even

00:48Trump are doing is treachery. This is retreating into development.

00:53He also emphasized that European defense is meant to act as a deterrent with a goal

00:57of changing Russia's attitude to avoid a spillover of the conflict in the wider region.

01:02We have to defend ourselves, we have to protect ourselves, but only so that there will be a

01:09reflection, so that there will be systemic changes and so on. This should be done, not

01:16defeat or victory, because there will be no victory here. We will all be defeated.

01:21The former Polish president expressed hope that just like his solidarity movement installed

01:25democracy in Poland in his era, the next generation will work hard to protect and maintain it.
