Russia proposes second round of peace talks with Ukraine in Istanbul

US President Donald Trump says it will be clear in two weeks whether or not Russia is sincere in its desire for peace with Ukraine, warning that Washington’s approach to Moscow could shift if Putin is “tapping” the US along.

00:00Russia has proposed to hold a second round of direct peace negotiations with Ukraine.
00:07Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made the announcement on Wednesday.
00:12The announcement comes after Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan concluded a two-day trip to Moscow,
00:18where he met with Lavrov and President Vladimir Putin.
00:21Russia, as they agreed, successfully developed a mnemorandum,
00:27which shows our position on all aspects of a safe way to overcome the first reason of crisis.
00:34Our delegation, along with Vladimir Medin, is ready to present this mnemorandum
00:40and give the details of the second round of direct peace negotiations in Istanbul
00:48on the next Monday, 2nd June.
00:53Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump says he's, quote,
00:57very disappointed with his Russian counterpart's decision to escalate fighting.
01:01He also stated that it will be clear to him soon whether Putin is sincerely looking for peace or not,
01:06as he warned of a potential shift in Washington's approach.
01:10We're going to find out whether or not he's tapping us along or not.
01:14And if he is, we'll respond a little bit differently, but it'll take about a week and a half, two weeks.
